Newbe from Northern California

Postby Rhino Ray » Sun Aug 28, 2011 6:35 pm

Well here goes, the first post. :) First of all, I'm located in Kelseyville, in Lake County. I do not have a teardrop however I am about to build one. I stumbled across this site in my research phase so where else to go for information but from the folks who own and love teardrops. I plan to haunt this site to glean as much information as I can as I go about the build.

I am not unfamiliar to this kind of build from what I see so far, it looks fairly straight forward. I have restored a couple of cars, a 40 Ford Pick Up and a 52 Chevy, the Chevy is my current ride. I plan to pull it with the 52 which has a 216 and a 5 speed transmission with an open drive-line.

I plan to use the teardrop not only for camping but to take it to car shows with my T Shirt business. I take photos of vehicles and put them on shirts at the show. Not a big money maker but it pays to get me to the shows.

I plan to build a 5X10 with removable shelves and paint it the same color as my 52, Candy Apple Red. I'm also planning a trip with my siblings to do the Route 66 run to at least the Grand Canyon next year.

I would appreciate any help and suggestions and am looking forward to this forum.

Cool! I just started my first build and am having a blast! The main structure comes together pretty fast and the time is in the details.

There's lots of money to be spent in the wheel/ tire/ fender area so choose a trailer that has a bolt circle you can work with.

Cheers, Kurt

I did the Grand Canyon in March and it was well worth it!

Thanks klhoush, I'm planning to build my own frame and axel. I'm in the process of selecting axel at this time and then I will build the frame around it. I'm looking at Torflex axels and debating between 2000 and 3500 lbs. What do you think?

8) Yes, there is and maybe they will jump in and reply. I'll send a PM soon if they don't declare themselves on the forum. There are also nearby neighbors in Mendocino & El Dorado Co. as well.

I have the Cabdyapple Red 52 Chevy sometimes parked by the Riviera Market. You live on Fairway?
