New From Canada

Postby kyfly » Mon Sep 05, 2011 10:13 pm

Hey all new member here. Have been tenting for years but decided it would be nice to get off the ground and safer from bears. My budget is small so i was toying the idea of converting a covered cargo trailer when i discovered tear drops and now i must have one! I like the weekender and grasshopper shape most. Are there any detailed plans or even a step by step for these designs? Ive been unable to find anything set it in stone. Also id like to make it 5x8. Thanks for any help!

hi there neighbor welcome to the forum

welcome to the forum. There are generic benroy plans on this site. Many people use the plans to get them started and then modify them to meet their needs depending on trailer size, type of doors, what you want etc. Patrick

I used a great deal of the info on Joanne's desert dawg web site to help me thru my 1st full size build. Her pictorials on electrical were a big help.

Her's is a grasshopper so the build info will be great for you.

Thanks all for the warm welcome and info. I found the detailed plans for the Weekender i was hoping for, now just need to decide on a final design. Theres so much info here its a little overwhelming. It seems my biggest problem will be finding a trailer at a reasonable price here in Canada. Any suggestions?

What he said. Both of my frames are recycled. One a 5x8 utility trailer, the other a freebee pop-up from Craigslist.

Its true there are is no shortage of cheap pop-ups around here, but most have narrow axles and dinky wheels. I dont want wheels underneath the trailer as ill probably run oversize wheels. My vision is for an offroad style teardrop. Ill keep my eye on kijiji for now and hope something shows up. Maybe i can get one of those snowbear trailers for cheap. Im located in Edmonton, and do most of my camping out west along the FTR.
