Newbie from Minnesota!!

Postby Hooch52 » Mon Oct 10, 2011 11:06 am

Just came across a teardrop, started researching them online, and I'm hooked. A ground-up build is probably outside my skill set, but I have an opportunity to buy an oldie. It's a '49 Deanette. I can't find a lick of info on that brand. Anybody familiar with it?

Not familiar with the Deanette, but welcome to the site. Whatever you decide to do, I hope you have a great experience with it.

There are so many nice and helpful people here and the sum total of their knowledge and experience is so vast, and they are more than willing to share. Whether you decide to build or restore (and if you can do the latter, you can probably do the former) you will be able to find the answers to your questions here.

Before you decide that building is beyond you, take a look at the generic Benroy plans in the index up at the top..

Thanks much for the warm welcome! I've been all over this website, downloaded the generic Benroy...I have to admit, it LOOKS straightforward...I'm still inclined to take an oldie and spiff it up. I'll take pictures, and I guarantee I'll be asking questions and posting pix!

Hiya, folks, I'm from Willmar, MN. West Central part of the state, about 40 miles for the SoDak border. I lost my wife to cancer a year ago, and I'm not going thru another winter staring out a window, and I have a big garage. Rehabbing an old tear seems like a dandy way to stay busy...well, that, and work. Retirement's a ways off...

Welcome to the forum!

My condolences to you on your loss. I think your plan of restoring a tear is an excellent way to keep busy and productive; AND you'll have a great way to go camping when you're done!

Be sure to post some :pictures: :pictures: of your progress. We all love pics around here.

Also be sure to go over to the Tearjerkers website (if you haven't already. I'm kinda slow on checking all the topics over there). There's a St. Croix Chapter where you can find gatherings in the area. This time of year things slow down a bit, but it's a great place to "meet the locals".

Take care,
Lil M.

Take a look in my album!! Just picked this up this past Saturday. It's a '49 Deanette, all original. I'd be so grateful if anyone and everyone offered suggestions, tips, etc. My initial idea is to put birch over insulation on the interior, then begin the front and back interior...I have some period-accurate fenders, I THINK they're off a late 40s pickup.

Wow! Looks like it's in very good shape. Pictures are a little small for seeing all the details, but it looks very nice. Good luck with your build. You can start a thread over in the Build Journals section so you can keep us updated on your project.
I'm hoping to find a garage where I can continue and finish my build over the winter. Seems that summers are just too full of other fun stuff to do, like camping, to be working on the teardrop.

Take care,
Lil M.
