Newbie from New Zealand

Postby SCARE! » Thu Nov 24, 2011 1:17 am

Hi,
I'm Brad from New Zealand.
Have been camping lots every summer.
Mainly because we have two little cockatiels that we take everywhere, and most holiday accommodation won't allow pets.
Was looking to get a caravan, but we are short on space, and I don't want to bite off more than I can chew.
Came across Teardrops!
Perfect for me and the missus.
I use AutoCad at work, so am going to design me something,
and build it myself, as I am a competent builder and mechanic.
Looks like tonnes of fun, and I can't wait!
The forum is amazing, I have been reading the builds..
Thanks!
Brad.

Just playing about. I just downloaded SketchUp to give it a go.
Kinda like AutoCad at work.
This one was just for fun, no scale! I've got a bit of reading and brainstorming to do before drawing up a plan..

First up, welcome to the madness :D
Are you planning on a rear galley, internal, external?
I am not at all familiar with camping in NZ and what amenities i.e. power, water, showers etc. are available.
Our Grasshopper design tear is close in concept to what you are thinking of.

I am not sure at this stage.
I may just have a pull out table at the rear, and maybe a drawer that opens externally.
Our camping sites have everything, and as it will be for weekend fun, I think we will be eating from the many cafes etc. close to the beaches.
Power, water and showers will be there too.

Brainstorming at the moment. Good to know SketchUp is there for a mock-up though..

what size you thinking. Most plywood comes in 4x8 so you will have about 2 feet more room at your feet unless you are over 6 foot. Which you can get from the back if you wish. put in drawers of put a battery.

from andrews collection is this

similar shape.

look though the hall of fame upper left you might find more ideas.

welcome aboard. mine does not look like anyone else but there are several that are similar.

Shadow Catcher looks like this in the back. you can have room for more with a little extra work. Simple and useful.

Compass Rose is 6' wide and Nancy specified exactly what she wanted. on the left side is the water heater converter and the controls.
