Hello new here

Postby bestclimb » Thu Dec 29, 2011 5:37 pm

Hi all,

nice pad around here. A little about myself, I live in Alaska with my wife and newish baby girl.

I am a fuel mileage junky, (50+ mpg out of a honda civic that is now semi retired due to child seat placement). I am thinking of building a small camp trailer that does not interfere with that goal. My tow vehicle will be an older Subaru loyale.

Hi Best,

Welcome to the forum...

You don't want to tamper with your fuel economy? You might want to build an ultralite.

Check out this thread!

I wish I had gone with an ultralight.

I'll be anxious to watch your build if you go that route. I would like to see an ultralight build that is not a pure foamie.

I have somewhat apposing goals. The trailer will need to be light (the subaru has 90 some odd horsepower) it will need to be insulated (I live in a cold climate even in the summer) and it will need to be stout enough for unimproved roads. Though if I build light then it does not need to be as strong, so finding the right balance there will be key.

Check out the foamie section for light weight and insulated (after all, they are BUILT of insulation).

Welcome. You will want to build it 5 feet wide so you will have room for you both and newish baby girl. :)
Happy trails,
