locks 4 putting in 2 inch ball receiver, caliper style lock

HI,

I am in central MA.

Locally or in general, where can I buy those locking units that you put on the hitch of the teardrop where the 2 inch ball would be when connected to the car ?

also, where can one buy those caliper looking locks that fit around the tire ( sort of the same principle as the "boot" used in Philly and other cities for chronic parking violaters so their car cannot be moved.. but I want one for my teardrop..

much appreciated,
joe

I wanna hang a map of the world in my house. Then I'm gonna put pins into all the locations that I've traveled to. But first, I'm gonna have to travel to the top two corners of the map so it won't fall down.

I bought this set that has the coupler lock, hitch lock, and latch lock all keyed alike.

We have had this discussion before, most anything you can get a bolt cutter or sledgehammer on is toast.

Yes Shadow Catcher, I think we all know that just about anything can be defeated, but does that mean that we don't do anything to protect our investments? You might as well include a battery powered angle grinder with a cut off wheel along with the other devices you listed. It could all be a waste of money, but then again possibly not! Thanks for your encouragement on the subject.

Gage, thank you for correcting my links. I really appreciate your help.

Just trying to help out a fellow camper and tear drop owner,

Clyde

It goes for just about anything; if a thief really wants it, a they will find a way to steal it. Why do we lock our doors when all it takes is a rock in the window. Stuff like this just keeps the majority honest.

I settled on a Trailer Cop which sits entirely up inside the pocket with nothing you can cut. http://www.trailercop.com
It did not fit our tongue till I did some major grinding with that 4 1/2 angle grinder.
There are a couple of other locks that I would consider as being likely to slow some one down to the point they will go elsewhere the trailer gator http://www.trailergator.com also impressed me but is still vulnerable to a grinder or cold chisel and hammer, depending on which steel they use. there is one other lock that would require changing the tongue.
Find the original thread.

thanks All for the many ideas and websites...

and I too thought of the ways a lock would be defeated, heck , if they really want it, they do not have to hook up the ball on a vehicle into the receptacle for the ball on the camper, they can just chain it on..

and if they really want it, a forklift can probably do the job do... I mean even ATM machines get stolen and loaded up on trucks.

so yeah, just trying to stop the casual thief as someone mentioned..

Oh by the way, if I did not mention it, I am picking up my teardrop on Sunday, Yahoooooo\\

he idea is to deter theft..if it's too risky the thief will move on to something easier...

I saw a tire lock at Camping World on Friday for $89.

They also have hitch locks. Walmart has the Reese ones.

Good luck...I know it is a concern. I'll have mine locked several different ways and still be worried it will go without me...

I'm going to put one of my bassets in mine. Once the thief finds out he won't let him sleep later than 4 am he'll be bring it back.Larry

You might consider a removeable tongue, that you can store in the trunk of the car. It works for me, on both of my tears.
