Hello everyone, I have been looking at your site for over a year and have finally decided to build a trailer. I live just outside of Utica, New York but do alot of hiking and camping in the adirondack park. My daughter and I have one 34 mile section left to do on the 144 mile Northville Lake Placid Trail so I can sleep anywhere. The problem is my wife is not to keen of tent camping, so for my birthday her and the kids bought me a used 5 X 8 used trailer frame i have had my eye on. So let the build begain. The only modifications i need to do is move the wheels and upgrade the tongue. I already upgraded the bearings and installed tempory lights and had it weight 160 LBS so i could register it. I need the trailer to be on the road so i can go pick all the wood for the build not bad for $200.00. My biggest problem was deciding what style to build. I have to full size sheets of paper taped to the back wall with 3 inch grids just waiting for me to start drawing. I have learn so much from your site and have gotten so many ideas on what i want to build the problem was to many ideas. I was reading one of the post that finally brought the whole thing in focus "KISS" keep it simple. So crank up my band saw or Table saw an time to have fun. I will keep you posted or ask question as needed.

Warmest Regards

Hi Glenn,
How about a "before" picture of that trailer frame.
Interested to see what you come up with for a 5 x 8 trailer frame.
So many options, Galley, portable toilet, AC, etc. It is so interesting to see what unique choices people make about what they want, and how they make it happen. As you probably noticed, there are a lot of creative 'outside of the box' thinkers and doers here. But always room for a new idea that works.
Are you going to do any welding?
Peace,
Rhett

Hi. I'm new to the forum too...but welcome! I've loved these little trailers for a while, but haven't gotten up the nerve to build one. I'll have to keep tabs on your journey through the build, to decide if I want to take on the task myself.

Oh I'm Jason, by the way...from Nashville.

Hi Glenn,

Welcome to the forum. I spent a few weeks in Utica, New York when I worked for BW. Beautiful country. I loved driving around the mountain, with the mountain on the left and the lake on the right. Looks like teardrop country to me!!!

I'd like to see a photo of your 5x8 trailer too. And if you have some design ideas, please share them too! I'm playing around with designs that work on a 5x8 trailer too!

Mike...
The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten, so build your teardrop with the best materials...

Thank you all for the warm welcome, After a battle with the New York State DMV and giving them my left !!! :x I finally have may trailer on the road. Guess what I did today I went out and bought lots and lots of great smelling Birch plywood. :applause:, glue, screws, new saw blades, and paint and stains sample cards. I am finally on my way. I loaded it all on my trailer frame, boy the trailer tracks great. I will send pictures soon I having trouble getting the photos off my camera. On 1 April 2012 we start to build. There is a 2 week delay on the steel upgrades to the trailer frame but I can still begin to build things until that is corrected. once again thank you.

Hi Glen
Welcome to the forum from the other side of the continent.
I started my teardrop build last summer and am nearing completion.
I have a Street Rod Shop and buld cars for a living, but have really enjoyed this project. Learning a lot about trailers and RV parts.
We hope to take our new "non conventional" teardrop on a 12,000 mile trip this summer.
Good Luck with your build, and I am sure you will find this forum very helpful as I did.

WELCOME!!!
The madness is a shared madness!!! Enjoy your build and the time that you spend on the site. This is a amazing place to learn and
to fellowship with those that share you thoughts and goals.

You will never "finish" you build and that is part of the madness/fun.

Good luck!
