Jumping in with both feet.

Well the wife was looking on ebay and she saw one of those "you might also be interested in..." links at the bottom. And they showed a ebay auction for someone selling the plans for their teardrop for $150.

That was a bit much for us, but the concept intrigued us. We did some further looking about and we came across the plans a lot cheaper. Could not find any free ones that were worth much (shoddy drawings or vintage articles that start off with "Get a junked '32 Ford"), should have come here first. But $25 for the plans that I got was not unreasonable compensation for someone else's trial and error. So we got a set of plans and we are going to start building in the spring. It's going to be called "Serenity" when completed (we're Firefly fans) and will have the ship's logo on it as well "I aim to misbehave" painted on the back in a nice flowing script on the back.

Even created a Facebook page about it. Stole the opening intro of the television series Babylon 5 (season one) and paraphrased it to be the intro for my page.

It was the dawn of a new age in camping, ten years after my first camping event in the SCA. The Serenity Project was a dream about to be given form. Its goal: to prevent stressful experiences by creating a place where we could sleep in a rainstorm and not get soaked.

It’s a port of call – a home away from home for a pair of folks tired of the cold and muddy ground. Humans (and many claim I might be alien) wrapped in just over 500 pounds of towable wood, all alone in the night.

It can be a comfortable place, but it’s our last, best hope for sleep. This is the story of the first of the Serenity RV’s. The year is 2012. The name of the rig is “Serenity One”

Yeah, the wife rolled her eyes. As the joke goes, "Behind every good man, there is a woman. Behind every good geek there is a woman rolling her eyes." Thank the gods I married a geek or I think she'd have disowned me by now.

So I'm here looking for tips, suggestions, places to order from, and once I have this sucker built...hopefully offer advice to those who come along after me.

I'm Mongo Skruddgemire (an obvious online alias) and I am building a teardrop.

Welcome, Mongo. You've definitely found the place to be for all things teardrop and TTT.

I see you're in southern MD...looks like we have another Chesapeaker to add to the ranks.

You should try to make it to a gathering...Patapsco in September, or Pocomoke in October. Whether the TD is campable or not, there's nothing like seeing a gaggle of them together in one place to do some recon and to stockpile ideas.
