I am a Newbie

Postby semperfimom1980 » Sun Sep 30, 2012 12:56 pm

My name is Patty and my husband and I are Michigan Newbies. We're in the planning stages of building a 5x10 teardrop. One hiccup we've bumped into is towing capacity of a 2010 2.5l Subaru Outback. Could someone direct me to the correct thread please?
Thanks for your help!

http://tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=50454&p=944163&hilit=Subaru+Outback#p944163 I also checked Subaru and Edmunds and MSN.auto websites: they also show the 2010 2.5l to be the same 2700lb rating. I see no problem here...try having a 1000 lb rating for your car (my HHR and Cobalt, both). I may end up towing with my '04 Chevy Silverado 2500HD (13500lb tow with booster springs) or '98 GMC 1500 (9000lbs with custom tranny, booster springs,75hp increase). I sure hope my 4x8 doesn't get THAT heavy.

  • *27 x 8.5-14LT AT tires (x 3) *Weight Distribution system for single-beam tongue
  • *100% LED's & GFCI outlets, 3x fans, AM/FM/CD/Aux. *A/C & heat, Optima AGM, inverter & charger(s)
  • *extended-run, on-board, 2500w generator *Coleman dual-fuel stove & lantern, Ikea grill, vintage skillet

Thanks for the info! It's starting to look more promising with our Subaru. I imagine I'll be back on these boards for more helpful tips. So glad I found you all!

Take a look at Shadow Catcher’s Gallery. His would be considered a big teardrop or a weekender. Maybe this build will give you a few ideals.
He has a Subaru

Interesting moniker. My wife is also a "semperfimom" of a third generation Marine. He's the first to actually graduate from boot camp though.

Yep we tow with an Outback, it is however a 3L H6 with the biggest transmission cooler I could fit in front of the radiator. You MUST have trailer brakes, This from first hand experience, Tear #1 did not have brakes and it was very hinky stopping on hills let alone mountains and the tow rating is dependent on brakes!
My understanding is that the 2.5L has a better bottom end torque than the H6. You would be more than welcome to come down and see the tear and OB (we are 4/10 mile south of the border).

Thanks all. Pappaw, the only thing I have to take a picture of right now is us sitting in our Lazyboys looking at ideas! Junkboy, thanks for posting the link. We were "Oh wowing" at some of the pictures. Gus, our son is a Staff Sergeant at Camp Lejeune. So proud! Shadow Catcher, we'll be traveling thru Ohio in about a month (on our way to Jacksonville, NC). Thanks for the invite. I'll keep in touch.

SemperFiMom1980 I have to thank you for your son's service. My brother was stationed at Lejeune as his last duty station. He is currently in Quantico, VA.
