Greetings from RI

Good Evening,

My name is Erik. I've been lurking the boards for a couple of weeks now and I've made a few posts. I think now is the time to introduce myself as I see a TD as a serious possibility in my future!

I've been camping all of my life, mostly with my folks/family but also with my lovely girlfriend and some good friends. I started off in an old Hillary canvas tent with my parents until we upgraded to a pop up and then eventually a 27' Sunline. Between work & college, I find camping to be the ultimate getaway. I started taking trips on my own last summer with the gf and we put the 20-30yr old tent through its paces! But i'm a sucker for new stuff, so I went out and bought a tunnel tent from Easy Camp out in the UK. $> $> I did tons of research and ended up with a pretty sweet setup. Unfortunately, I have some gripes...with a lack of windows, it gets HOT! Also, the condensation its pretty bad along with some MINOR leaking during storms. We still ended up taking a trip EVERY SINGLE weekend this summer and noticed a huge flaw in my setup. My 2002 Mustang doesn't hold all of my gear!!!!! :( . Fortunately, I have some amazing parents who loaned me their Jeep Liberty for most of the summer.

Well, between the TERRIBLE gas mileage of the jeep, and my independent nature I decided I should build a small gear trailer for the car. Then my wheels got spinning after seeing a Lil Guy in Mystic, CT over the summer. Low and behold, I found this website and have been GLUED to it every day.

My idea thus far;
Build something light enough to be towed by my 1000lb capacity MUSTANG :frightened:
It has to be as cheap as possible!!! Sub $2000 if not less.
But make it amazingly awesome in the process...

I'm loving the shape of the cub profile at this point. I also want a sweet galley, interior cabinets, and POSSIBLY a hybrid bed/table. I'm leaning towards a 5x8 trailer as I'm 6'2" and need my space! I think Zach's convertible build will be what I attempt to duplicate, just with the more rounded cub shape. I'm interested in both the aluminum finish as well as the woody style but I have to consider weight and $!!!

Living in RI without a heated garage, nor much garage space...this may go slower than I hope. My goal is to have something camp-able by June 2013. I also don't have the money in my hand at this moment, and will be buying this as I go. :NC

SO,
Lightweight(Tow vehicle, v6 Mustang)
As cheap as possible but not skimping on the luxuries
Convertible-Cub-Aluminum/Woody

Any ideas?!?!?!?!?!

Sorry for the boring story...just figured I would introduce myself with a bang!

The tow vehicle. Some mods have been done since this picture.

Welcome Arch, I work in Mystic and live in Pawcatuck, but it wasn't my Lil Guy you saw. I'm nearing completion of my tear which I started in March, and I'm gonna give it my first cool weather try tonight.
I hope you know about the marine consignment shop in Mystic. Lots of my parts came from there! They are affiliated with the shop in Wickford. Good luck, post pictures and I hope to see you down the road, or if you feel like stopping by contact me!

I appreciate the welcome! I had no idea about the consignment shop, thank you for that! I was actually thinking about checking out one of the little guy dealers in CT. I figure I should see if I would suffer from claustrophobia before I commit myself! Any chance that there are gatherings in our neck of the woods??

Thanks again
