Hola from San Antonio

Postby cajunito » Tue Oct 16, 2012 10:51 am

Hello all! I am wanting to build my 1st teardrop..... albeit somewhat smaller & more lightweight, because I want to pull it with my motorcycle.. I am looking at the HF trailers, and wondering what size to buy which is adequate and could also be towed at an average of 70mph.. Any advice would certainly be appreciated!

40 X 48 and you can stretch the length to 7 foot if you want a sleeper. Throw the tongue away and add a 2x2 x 3/16 sq tube tongue at least 2 foot longer than the stock one. If you don't it will be a very ill handling monster. Both Eggbert my 3x5 cargo

and the chuckwagon are on a 40 x 48

and Rip VanWinkle my sleeper 4x8 is on an apache aluminum tent camper frame. All have been towed with my Goldwing very comfortably. All the builds are in my album.

I think you would be better off to build your own trailer frame. By the time you buy a Harbor Freight trailer and cut it all up and add more to it to make it work you could actually build one that is lighter weight and better suited for your needs.

Here is a link to a very simple light weight trailer that Andrew designed. It can either be welded or built as a bolt together.

Thanks guys! I do think that, after looking at everything, building my own trailer frame would be the way to go so it would be lighter weight.. I have located a Dexter dealer here for an axle.. I am pretty sure torsion bar is the way to go.. Nice sleeper,Bob!
That is pretty much in line with what I am hoping to do,albeit shorter in height.

Thanks Terry! Wow!! Doug did a great job! That's about what I want in a TD.. only 4' wide instead of 3'.

Oh I’m surprised no one has posted this guy ideal. Hopefully all his wishes go right and you might
be able to buy one.
