Greetings Little trailer people

Postby harleykamper » Mon Feb 11, 2013 12:54 am

My name is Paul Moon. I live in Reno NV. I found this site while searching for little tent trailers. I discovered Sketchup on this forum. After MUCH though and discussion I've decided on building a Clamshell tent trailer to tow behind my motorcycle. This tent trailer is built on the Habor Freight 40" X 48" trailer. It has an "over the fenders" raised floor that will create a 73' X 53" sleeping area. Plenty of room for myself and the little lady. The inside will be 12" tall. (Maybe 10" I haven't firmed that up yet) That's is 6" On the bottom and 6" on the top. The trailer will open up like a clam shell. Hinged at the back of the trailer. Opens to the front. The 2 sides and the front will have light weight tent material with zippered windows and door. The completed trailer should be approx 55" wide x 75" long X 35" tall. There will be 4 storage boxes built into the floor accessed though doors in the floor. The floor will be carpeted with indoor/outdoor carpet. Lots of work to do!
I've started posting pictures already in my gallery. I started the build today and I"ll be documenting it here in my gallery. I included a "rough" sketchup on the tent trailer. I have some better sketchup in the sketchup site. I'll get them posted here when I have more time. I'm really excited I found this site. Although this isn't a "teardrop" trailer, it is tiny! Ideas and comments are always appreciated. Thanks everyone.

The dimensions look fine to me. I like your plan and your design. Get your build journal started and post lots of pictures because we all love them. And welcome to the forum.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to enjoy building it! I've posted pictures in my gallery. Is this the kind of thing people start a tread about, or just post pictures as I have in their gallery? I don't want to take up space in the wrong place! :NC
Bizie, It is 12 inches tall inside! But the top opens up clamshell-like to approx 4 feet. There's a picture in my gallery with it open. It's really more of a bed on wheels than a Trailer! We're going to pull it across the country in Oct/Sept this year. 7,500 miles behind our motorcycle. We'll have sore butts, so we won't need a place to sit, just lie.
Maybe in "nontraditional trailers"?

Start a build journal in the Build Journals section and post your progress, pictures, building methods, and whatever else you want related to your build there.

Absolutely post a thread in the "builds". Section. We want to watch your progress. Builds is for any kind of build. Doug hodder has a thread for his standie rebuild and grant for his oversize tugdrop. I see you are an icu nurse, i am a school nurse. If you got you RNFormation recently, the feature article on credentials would be me.
