Greetings from the sunshine state

Postby corvusallen » Thu Mar 14, 2013 6:48 pm

Hi, my name is Corvus and I am new to the world of teardrop camping.

I live in Florida. I got the idea to build a teardrop trailer when I saw one for the first time at the amazing campsites at Topsail Hill State Preserve in the Florida panhandle.

I am gathering information to build my first teardrop. I need to make it as cheap as possible, so I am thinking it will be pretty basic. I am hoping to spend less than 1000 dollars. Can it be done?

I purchased some plans (I'm kicking myself now, though, for spending that money when there are so many free plans). Anyway, here is what I was thinking of making for my first one.

It has a soft top that snaps loose to make it a convertible, with a screen on the top. It uses a harbor freight trailer.

I think my ideal trailer, however, would be some kind of nicer Woody with some different kinds of paneling, air conditioning (or at least a fan) and a nice galley kitchen. However I think I'm going to start out relatively simple and will work my way up possibly from there, when I have more money and experience.

I am trying to figure out how to run a battery for this thing as I think I'd like to run lights and a fan from it (or possibly an RV refrigerator.) If anyone could help me out with that or direct me on where to look I would appreciate it.

Welcome. I am kinda new to this forum and am from NW Florida as well. You can get lots of great info from all the great people here. Under a grand is doable depending on how simple you go or how lucky you get. I started with a lot of free stuff so the majority of my cost was add ons. Just take your time, and have a plan. And post pics, some of us are addicted. :D 102692

If your budget is under a grand, than yes it is a GO!

A RV refrigerator? you just blew your entire budget, ha hahaha
Even a Cooler style ice box is $400 - $900

Plan well, look for free or used stuff and get them when you can. most peoples camper cost more to
build if they just go buy what they need when they need it.

Welcome and Enjoy your build BTW
