Howdy ..

Postby RevBill » Sun Mar 10, 2013 8:13 pm

Been lurking a short time and enjoying the site, the builds, and the information ..

I have a 4x8 Harbor Freight itching for a remodel, it's mostly used to haul junk and rescue stranded motorcycles (friends and family) .. but I also have access to a very affordable master welder/customer trailer builder .. so I'm undecided yet ..

The wife and I have been all over the board for a "camping-something" as a move up from tenting it with our twin boys (age 6 y/o at the time of this post) .. from considering a full-sized RV, to a converted school bus, to a pull-behind converted enclosed trailer/toy hauler, to a smaller pop-up (NOT), and now to the idea of a Tear Drop ..

I'm still kicking around the idea of a ultra-light bike hauler/sleeper, but since I will be using my 2000 Kia Sportage as my mule, it's not going to be a converted enclosed commercially avail. trailer .. so "something else" is on the order .. hmm ..

.. let the fun begin .. at the moment it's looking like a tear drop as a first step .. and then "something similar" if needed .. we shall see ..

Welcome to the Forum
Build a teardrop for your comfort and get the kids a pup tent or 2 man tent.
Kids love to tent! Some of their best memories will be of tenting with mom & dad in a torential rain storm, even if you are sleeping near them in your cozy teardop, while they are learning the importance of staying dry. .
Remember camping is all about being out there in nature around a campfire at night and eating outdoors by day.

PS
I have been a tenter for over 50 years.......this year we move off the ground into our newly built teardrop. :applause:

Hi Revbill, welcome to the best forum on the net. I agree with Brian and Sandy, bolt a floor to that HF trailer and build a simple teardrop, just to get you feet wet. Teardroppers are a special breed, much friendlier than folks that have huge bucks invested in their big toys, probably because we spend most of our time outside of our rigs. I know, I have been on both sides. I also have a HF trailer that I just bolted together, and the simple, light-weight teardrop is well under way. Keep in touch, ask questions, and take pics. Good luck.

Got the HF trailer out of the back yard this week .. greased the wheels and started plotting it's re-birth ..

Thanks for the warm welcome .. looking forward to having some fun with this project .. and yes, "pics or it didn't happen" .. lol .. I'm familiar with that theory .. so I'll get some lined up as I get started ..

Hi RevBill
Remember go 5" wide or you will kick yourself later.
You can do it with the 4' x 8' HF trailer. All about wheel offset, small tubs, or cool fenders????
