Noob in Ohio

Vince and Cindy Kirchner, parents of three boys ages 23,19,17. We are currently in the OMG how broke an I stage paying for college, 2008 we will have all three in college at the same time. Currently we do not have a camper, so I would say we are in the planning stage. Planning to escape from the wrath of children, planning to retire from the automotive industry if I last that long, planning to get back to a simpler life and enjoy each other more than we have time for now. Cindy works as a legal secretary for a local firm that handles mostly real estate, wills, trusts. I work for a automotive glass supplier (Tier 1) in the Product Development Department, my official title is Cad System Administrator but the boss tells me that it is single butt to kick. I really oversee the vehicle designs and perform the optical simulations.

I cannot believe the wealth of information here. I love the look of the TT's, but as my Wife has graciously pointed out, she does not fit very well at 6 foot tall, so I think we will have to go to something a little bigger. She also likes a few more comforts when she travels, so it must have a porta john, shower, etc. So I can see already that this will be more like an ET which has the ability to handle long term living at a reasonable price. That also means able to sleep a 6 footer comfortably.

Vince

Welcome Vince,
Both me and my wife are 6'. With a queen size bed we are real comfortable. For the potty we use a small shower tent. If you are tall you just need to design around that.

 Design around it, I had a nasty thought about asking my Wife to lay down so I could draw around her. If your avatar is current, what does your layout look like, most of the beds I saw were laid out with the sleeping parallel to the bumpers?

Welcome to the forum! What you state can be done however, it makes for a wide trailer. The width can be minimized by building over the wheels. Usually, tears that are 5ft wide have queen sized beds. I believe that 4ft wide tears have full sized beds.

Thank you both for the ideas, now the difficult part is getting my Wife to decide what she likes. That usually takes a couple of weeks for her to think about it and let her emotions evolve to a final decision. She is a wonderful woman, don't get me wrong. But emotions must be considered if I want to support her as a good husband should. 8)

Image to the playground Cindy and Vince.

 Steve T's TD is 12 feet long I think. We have lots of members over 6' and they do fine. My husband is just over 6 and he is going to curl up on ours just a bit. Truth is we sleep in the middle and curled anyway. I have a full size mattress across a former pop-up and out tent trailer. Have room for all the needed amenitys.

Now the ET and Steve Fredericks new design will work wonderful too. 8)

Welcome Cindy and Vince,

Check out Aunti M's ( Miriam, 2 above this one) build album. We put the bed across the front and I am 6'1" and the bed is 74-1/2 to 75 " in length 54" wide. Big enough for the two of us. And that leaves room for the ports-pottie, TV, dressing area, shelving and cabinets.

Anyway, look around and enjoy. We know how you feel about children, we have 5 and 9 grandchildren. I feel like sometimes it must say 1st National Bank in small letters on the front of my house somewhere. No matter how much I make, they seem to find an expense for it.

Miriam and Mike, thanks again for the comments. I will have to look up Steve Fredericks design, not familiar with that one.

George, what a pleasant surprise. Funny that we are in the same town but meet again like this. Cindy got quite a giggle out of it also. Yes, I would like to see what you plans and progress are. I will call you assuming you are in the phone book. :shake hands:

Thanks for the link, that is one beautiful build. Being in the automotive industry, I have been trying to figure out how many favors I can call in for some carbon fiber work. Just a thought to keep it light and strong.

I see that Steve got a lot of good reviews on his CD, that looks like it would be a valuable tool also. I'm going to go stare at Steve's build for a while more.
