Just another teardrop...

Postby Tux » Wed Dec 02, 2009 7:06 am

Greetings from Denmark, everybody.

I've be working on my Cub/Modernaire since sep. last year and it's just about ready to roll out into the world.
I've been inspired by Michael Westhoff's LuxoTear and working with his plans from his website. I've made a few changes here and there...a little longer (i'm 6'5"), better and thicker insulation, complete multimedia installation etc etc.

I have a lot of pictures but I have to figure out how to put them up on this site ;)

Congratulations on your build, and welcome to the madness..

Posting pix is not that difficult, and I'm sure someone will provide the link to how it is done.....

Thank you for the warm wellcome!

The bottom of the TD is sealed with warm galv. steel plates. This way I could use the space in the frame for insulation and protect the frame from weather tear and wear.
After skinning the TD I placed long alu V-profiles (10x10x240cm) along the edges to completely lock out any moisture. The insulation in the floor is 60mm thick and walls are filled with 50mm so I could in theory, be camping on the North Pole without getting cold

I'm currently waiting for the arrival of the aul mold/profiles I've ordered at Frank Bear/Vintek RV trailer supply, so I can finish the edges and the doors.

Since I can't find anything that resembles the fenders of the original teardrops here in Europe, I'm a little in doubt of what and where to order. Shipping costs is the greates enemy and apparently very few carriers can handle alu profiles in lenghts of 8'

Classic Finn - Teardroppers of Europe....United :)

The summer of 2010 a couple of friends and I will be going to Nordkapp/Norway to look at the midnight sun. That will be the final real test of the strenght of my construction. We will be driving about 2500km each way. Wanna come along??

Now that is one trip that we most definitely will join. Yes indeed. Which Route are you taking? Cmon up from Helsingör Helsingborg across from Stockholm to Helsinki? Now that will be a site for people to see on the highways. Finally 2 teardrops or more traveling together. Let us know the route and dates.

We,d head up straight North across and over to the Norwegian Side or?
Pm me your telephone number and or email . ;) Lets plan this for sure.

Here is a link for others to see.

For us to drive directly up to Norkapp from our home just outside of Helsinki is 1 574.9 kilometers = 978.597491 miles one way. :D Almost straight up.

Dang, from looking at your build pics, this one is solid. Doesn't look like strength is going to be an issue unless an 18 wheeler broad sides you.

Nice looking build.
