Yep, that is Ebony our 2 1/2 year old female black lab and she is wonderful. I've wanted a lab since childhood and just recently purchased a house with enough yard of one.

I agree with the smarts sentiment. As she has begun to mature she has really started to show how intelligent she is. She responds well to all the usual commands and also simply pays attention to what my wife, my kids and I are doing and responds accordingly. (For example if I let her out of her crate in the morning instead of the kids she runs up and wakes them up before going outside but if they do it she heads right out there.)

I'm glad her picture reminded you of good times with a great friend.

I have been rumaging through a tent-camper sight that someone here gave me the link for and that is an interesting idea.

I really think, however, that if I'm going to go hard-shell that I'll go all the way. I've been itching to head north late in the season and I don't think the wife will go for any type of tent once daytime temps drop below about 55. (she's really a warm climate gal but I prefer it cool to cold.)

A tear (or more likely a TTT) would give me more flexibility that way. And if she still doesn't want to come... more room for me and the dog.

PS- No moverment yet on the build or the bathroom (finals are approaching) but I am now at least keeping an active eye out for cheap frames or old pop-ups to salvage.

I was an avid tent camper for most of my life. In my mid forties, I found that sleeping on the ground had lost some of its appeal, though. I could sleep on solid rock at twenty, but now sleeping on the ground, even with my thick Thermarest CampRest is hard on my body.

I have a fairly minimal Teardrop, and find it to be the next best thing to tent camping. You can even put some off-road tires on one, and tow it down logging or fire trails for wilderness camping, if campgrounds don't suit you.

I think you will like Teardrop camping. Just remember, you can make it as simple or as fancy as you want.
