Very cool!

Does anyone out there have any info on this little trailer? Boxcar, it might help to post a closeup of any identifying marks like the logo or manufacturer's sticker.

Hmmm...

you stated the dimensions were 7'2" (7 feet 2 inches) by 9'6" (9 feet 6 inches). Did you mean 72" (72 inches or 6 feet) x 96" (96 inches or 8 feet)?

Hi, Boxcar:

That's sweet looking! You're going to have lots of sleeping room in that tear!

I noticed you have a luggage rack planned. You have excellent drawing skills. I'll try to post your sketch below and maybe trigger some comments on it:

Thanks for the responce Sharon. I have a reputation for building (or modifying) in this case. Many crazy things. Being able to do a rugh drawing helps me to visualize the project. I utilize moore of a sculpting tecnique in my builds, and then draw the plans ( if need be )from the finished project. It allows me mutch more freedom . and oh yes - Form does fallow function. I have realy goten in to this project ,probubly more than I expected . I guess its the "love of the uglu duckling syndrome".
It will be heavy when compleated (1000lb projected) But it needs to be considering the environment that it will be used in. Thanks again for posting the pic .Hope to here from you again....Boxcar..

Cool drawings.

I'm assuming you've seen of the threads on Teardrop American Inc.

IIRC, the gull wing doors tend to leak. Looking forward to photos of the re-build.

teardrop american

Postby boxcar » Tue Mar 10, 2009 10:05 am

No I had not seen them. Thanks for the lead. Basicly everyone is curious and no one knows a thing. Built from 1986 to 1990, plolly etholine, Never had an int. Thats all I have ben able to gleen from my serches.
As to my build .The freame is done and the "egg" is back in it's carton.Added a 6" lift to the frame design to allow for greater ground clearence. The intierior is about 50% compleate. Foamed in all voids with cryogenic foam (pollyurithane) caped with 1/4" a/c plywood. This conversion is not for the faint of hart. The teardrop American molds were flawed savearly .No consistancy from port to starbord in the shape so all interior components must be scribed to fit. The shell is fairly flexible and suffers saging eather due to heat or just plain gravity and age. All the foam we added corect this problem though. The shell is now very ridged and is finaly starting to look lice the drawings.Fun Fun Fun! New pics in my gallery. I will take the time to post a proper build thread ( and lirn how to post pics) when the project is compleated.....Boxcar..

Boxcar,
I see shells of these every summer up here. I have heard rumors that they were manufactured in my neck of the woods however I have not seen documents proving it. They look pretty neat and the doors seem to be the biggest problem with these. Good luck.

Google search indicates: "Teardrop American Inc." 380 E. Penny Road, Wenatchee, WA.

There was one for sale in Lebanon, OR last year. I've seen a few listed for sale. Never seen one in person.

Yea the doors are a problem. I havent had it out yet to test the doors but I am sure theay will leak through the hinges. We have solved this problem by fabricating soft hinge hats out of 1/16th vulkanized rubber.(pics to come) And we will be istauling hydro lifts on all doors. We will also be chainging the door latches to a more secure system. Thanks for the manufacturing info. Every little bit helps. .....Boxcar..
