Sliding bunk

CPnthrfan wrote:hhmmmmmmm, well we are us to tents so if we have to we can all sleep in the floor or back in the tent. SO I may go in a direction of the gally and having a place to store my gear between camping trips without unloading everytime. But a air condition in Humid South Carolina is always good lol. I may try bunks still. lol :?

Well, the way this one is designed, the bunk is supposed to slide forward, which allows a galley space during the day, then the bunk slides back at night, into the galley area. So this allows for both a bunk and a galley at the expense of some of the storage cabinets you would usually have in the galley and cabin.

Hi,

The galley is going to go in the back, and open from the rear of the trailer. The bunk will slide into the galley space, when the galley is not in use. The bunk will slide forward when the sleeping area is not in use so that the galley space will be usable. See the pictures below:

This picture shows the bunk, but not how it slides forward.

This picture shows where the bunk slides forward, then the galley space becomes usable.

Not to muddy the waters, but this is a picture of a stationary bunk, someone else used in their build.

Further along, planning the sliding bunk.

This is the version I am working on building, now.

Galley will still open from back like this, but I will have to push the bunk forward, out of the way, when I want to use it.

Can't take credit for the idea. Mike S. who runs the forum drew the diagrams, developed the idea.

To follow the thread as it was developed, go here:

By the way, you would probably want to build yours taller, to allow more headroom. I was constrained to keep my cabin under 4 1/2 feet because I want to keep it in my garage, which has a low roof. If I had a regular garage, I would have raised the height of the cabin to at least 5'. The baltic birch plywood comes in 5x5 squares.

Image to the playground Walt. I see you have worked out most of the details with Al.

I don't really like OSB for exterior for a few reasons. One is getting the CPES into all those little cracks and corners might not work too well. It really is intended to be covered. Second by the time you get it prepared and manage to get screws to hold you might be cheaper to do plywood. Then there are the issues of keeping water out of all the weekender's seams. I know plywood has water issues too but it holds screws well.........

Now I get to admit that I love the "look" of OSB. 8)

The paint is great and the CPES is fantastic but there are millions of places for water to get in and it only takes air bubble in a corner to make a water problem. :(

Fathers Day

Postby Alfred » Sat Jun 20, 2009 12:06 am

Dude!

Still looking for a trailer? Father's Day is Sunday - Didn't you ask for one???

By the way, did you see the fellow on Greenville, SC Craigslist has an old pop-up for salvage, asking $200, could probably use the trailer and get some good parts, too!

Go here to see: http://greenville.craigslist.org/rvs/1223738053.html

Keep us posted!
