Phil,
I'd try to explain it, but I'm afraid I'd butcher my response! I found a web site that explains it here.

I really hope you get the chance to take a look at one soon. The one at Strafford, MO that Jeannie mentioned is the same one that we saw in September at the town's festival that caused us to purchase one in Indiana a week later! Here's the one in Strafford: http://www.campingworld.com/rvsales/Travel-Trailers/2010/Dutchmen-T-B/106056/ It's got the bathroom, which unfortunately cuts down on the bed size. We went with the TQ model (no bathroom), which makes a queen size bed.

Hi Phil,
Got a little info for ya.

Image
The surge braking system uses a specially designed trailer hitch coupler, called an Actuator, which has a hydraulic cylinder built in. When the tow vehicle applies its brakes, the tow vehicle decelerates causing the trailer to apply a pushing force against the hitch. This force actuates the surge hitch hydraulic master cylinder, transferring high pressure brake fluid to the wheel cylinders. The trailer brakes are now applied.

Hope this helps,

Mike

So they sold you one for how much? The sticker prices for those things are insane! Is that just to give them 10,000 to play with?
