Hi miniaturepeddler,

I apologize; I didn't see your questions and I'm more than willing to answer any you may have.

Happy New Year, too! The last annual tear drop gathering at Lake Perris is occurring I think in March. My wife and I have attended the last 2 years and it was a lot of fun to gather information and meet a lot of nice people.

Best regards!

Thanks for sharing on how you were going to get the trailer out of the classroom (I was thinking about the boat in the basement also)...

Good luck on the build and Happy New Year...

You can do this with only a couple simple tools in about 20 minutes.
Find a video on the internet (it will take you longer to watch than the task)
Every trailer should know how to do this in their sleep.
Happy New Year.

Use a hand cart to help get the trailers out of the room.

Tipped them to their side, wheel and fender on the cart (with it's handle down). Wheeled the trailer out the door onto my classroom porch. Then moved it to the steps. Tara and I were able to lift it down the steps, flop it to the sidewalk onto its wheels and hook it up:

We also build a smaller 3x3 trailer at the same time, so put it into the be of the pickup truck and now we have driven it up to the house and parked them on the front porch of the house, where I shall begin working on them. We have to drive them to the DMV on Thursday to pick up license plates.

Then I can remove the lights and the wiring (that I just did} and begin work on the frame. Then the ral work begins, right?

When you put the light wiring back on. Run a grounding wire to all the lights. Grounding thru the frame is iffy at best. I found that a wheel well be your legs is not as bad as one would think. With a wheel well you can eliminate all that wood under the floor. Unless you are building a very heavy teardrop, you can just extend the floor out beyond the frame. After the walls are all on it will be plenty strong. On my 5 wide TD and a 4 wide trailer, I only used 2" foam with 1/8 FRP(fiber reinforced plastic) for my floor and that worked for me. Except when building you will never walk on the floor. You will kneel on the mattress on the floor. Unless you use a stool when putting on your shoes you want the bottom of the door at a comfortable high so not to cut into the bottom of your legs.
Just some thoughts.

Someone please say something about these tongues on these trailers the little 4 foot has a tongue so short it is pure evil to back up 2 foot needs to be added.

The 4x8 also needs about 2 foot and a heavier member. I ran mine all the way to the end and sleeved it down to pull the 4 foot with my 8 foot in tandem.

Wow, what State is that? I didn't know it was legal to pull/haul tandem trailers.

In California you can pull a trailer behind a fifth wheel with a commercial class a license (must not be too long)

Finally got over to the DMV to pick up the license plates:

Interesting, that a lot of the procedures and costs depend on who you get when you get to the counter.

We had two trailers to registers, so Tara stood in line for the small one, and I did the future teardrop (4x8) Harber freight.

Tara's registration was quick and efficient, No inspection, 40 bucks cash.
My adventure was a little more tedious. The registrar made me go outside for a vehicle inspection. (No problem). Then back inside to another registrar. He did not like my chicken scratch, and my receipt from October was very faded, so I had to fill out another affidavit on the specifics of prices, and location of the build. My cost $42 bucks (what the heck, was the difference?).

But good thing in the end, both our trailers are registered for he next 5 years.

Now to strip off the lights and electrical and get started on the build.
Ordered a cover from Amazon to protect the trailer for the next year as I work on it and to keep the wood from being exposed, until finished assembled and painted.
