Hi Dave
Sounds like you should be looking for a "Boler".
They are light weight and willl easily meet your needs with two kids.
Thay are also easily restored to whatever level you wish to take them.
Don't know how readily available they are in your area, but very common here with the Street Rod community.
Good Luck

Just looked those up, and they look pretty nice. And they appear to be pretty light. Also I know how to repair and modify fiberglass, and it would be very easy to paint.

Any idea where I should look to find one local to me, or at most within 500 miles?

i'm going to use E-Track for my beds they have exsesorys that hold 2x4s then put plywood on top of them and add mattress on that you can make them out when you need them for kids or leave them home when you don't you can get them from Amazon.com best of all you can put them where you want.

Hi Dave
Look on ebay. There seem to be alot of them around hear ranging from $1000.00 to $3000.00
I believe they were manufactured in Manitoba, Canada.
Yes the are light and cool. Our local Rod Run will see at least 40 of them again this year.

Thanks for the info. I'll take a look at them. Still a toss up between the Boler and a Cargo Trailer though, whichever I can find for the better price (taking into account for the condition of course) I'm hoping for something cheap and light, that would be easy to change up based on where I'm going and who's coming with me. Although I do the the stealth camper quality of the cargo trailer since I'm in an urban neighborhood.

Well, its been quite a while since I've posted in here... so a quick update...

About a month I went and picked up a US Cargo V-Nose 6x12 trailer that I ordered about 5 or so months ago (no idea what took so long). It has a 32" RV style side door, double door in the rear, 3/8 ply walls, 3/4 floor, and had them Rhino line the bottom half of the trailer (to protect from dings, scratches, and the elements).

Unfortunately it towed horribly, it felt like a huge anchor behind my car. So I ended up selling it locally for more than $500 more than I what paid.

So, once again I'm starting at nothing, and I think it's time to seriously look at building a foamie. But I think it'll be tough because I'll want to be able to stand up straight inside it, and I'll need room for myself, my girlfriend, 2 children (for when they come with us), and all of our things.

Dave,

That sounds like a 2+2. http://www.angib.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/t ... tear47.htm

I'll bet you could do that as a foamie...

Here's mine... a standie, not a 2+2

Mike...

P.S. Don't mind the wheels, that's just so I can get it into the garage!

Dave we have had Subaru's since 1977 and current own #12 and 13 Mine is a 01 OBW with the 3L H6 and 212 hp. Compass Rose is a 6X12 tear

96128

From personal experience wind resistance is a KILLER and our TD is a good bit shorter than a CT. We obviously love Subaru's but the HP and torque don't come in till you get up in RPM. We almost did not make the camping spot close to the location at 10,000 feet, with the pedal flat to the floor in fist gear we barely made it up that last hill.
BTW #11 owned now by my son now has over 300,000 miles.

How strong is the foam? Or would it be a better idea to frame everything out with wood and just cover it with foam and fill the space between the studs with more foam? That way ill have something strong to mount things to, like lights, switches, etc.

Initial reports from the foamie section indicate that foamies are very strong once they are skinned. Of course you need hard mounting points for certain items, and for that I think you still have to use wood.

I'm not done with mine yet, hopefully next spring. Then I should know more about it.

That's what I thought but there are exactly zero that are in my area, or within my price range.
