Hello from Winnipeg

Postby BIGb » Fri Jan 05, 2007 3:16 am

Greetings. I've recently been given a teardrop trailer than was in complete disrepair. The last owner died (no, not in it) and his wife, being very old herself, who was tired of looking at it in the backyard for eons, wanted it removed as soon as possible.
It is made of some sort of plywood (which was badly rotted in many areas) and skinned in aluminum. There is a hinge on the roof that allows the rear section to rotate up enough to stand in it, kind of like the Kampmaster. The sides were stained canvas that smelled bad. A small stove and sink, with a few cupboards, and a diner type table that converted to a bed made up the interior. The unit is 6' wide and you slept sideways in it as opposed to the usual end to end style.
After peeling some of the aluminum, replacing rotted wood, and adding some aluminum inner structural reinforcements, the skin was sealed and painted. I added some old trailer lighting that I had, a few old hubcaps, wheels and bearings, weather stripping etc....and cut up an old tent to replace the sides.
Now it sits in MY backyard and is under two feet of snow. Hopefully I can finish up with interior lighting and some new cabinetry come May camping opener.
Can anyone please help me determine the age and manufacturer? I looked everywhere and not even a number!
Anyway, this site looks like it has all the information for me to trick out the inside of the unknown teardrop.

The shape of the opening hatch makes it look like the trailer in these home-build plans:

which would make it a close relation of the Wild Goose plans (third row of the 'Vintage Plans' menu item at the top of this page) and the later Kampmaster commercial trailer.

Whether yours is home-built or commercial, I don't know.

Wow, better response than google. Andrew I think you're the closest match to date. Any guess to age? Any more information or media would be great! Aunti M, about 350 lbs according to my lift. Buy the way I may have you on the messiest garage thingy. I don't have any documentation for ownership so I thought I would register it as a homebuilt and avoid the tax. ;)
thanks again

Sorry, that front page is all I've got. But someone on this forum posted it or sent it to me, so hopefully they'll see this discussion.

Bigb,
You did a great job on the restoration! :applause: Thanks for posting the pictures.
Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Ask yourself these simple questions every time you are in doubt about any action.

Thanks for your support.
Andrew, I believe the car in the picture is a 1956 Lincoln Capri Coupe. The investigation continues......
