I have an addiction...

Postby McTHING » Tue Jun 19, 2007 4:45 pm

Hi all...
I'm new to the forum. I have been working on a teardrop design and am excited to get involved here and will be looking for some help along the way... I'm also a big VW enthusiast and want to be able to drag this new trailer behind my 74 VW THING. Would really like to be able to drag it to car shows, cruses, swap meets, etc...

Welcome! I've only been here a month myself, but even I'm smart enough to figure out this is the place to be. The folks here are great!

If you think you are obsessed now, wait until you go to one of the gatherings! We went to the ITG2 at Minden NE and the best way I can describe it is....I have always loved going camping, but a teardrop gathering is like going camping with 100 of your closest friends!!! I am so totally hooked, I am trying to figure out how to talk the boss into letting me go on vacation every month so that I can go to EVERY SINGLE Gathering there is!!! This is the coolest, "legal" thing I've ever done!!!

Image to the playground Mc Thing. I am sure you will have a great time designing your TD. We have lots of light weight designs that will fit your needs. The Hall of Fame is a good place to start.

The only thing we ask in return for all the fun and information is lots of picctures. Keeps the MadOnes happy dontchaknow. ;)

Enjoy

Hey McThing,

Welcome to the forum. I'll bet you can design an awsome McTear to go behind your McThing... Like they said, keep us in the pics.

As you, and I, have probably figured out the people in this forum are wonderful and full of great ideas. Oh yeah, pictures are another thing that are required. Pictures are a drug around here! Unforunately, I've only submitted design drawings but I'll feed the need before too long. Welcome to the group! Browsing through the other posts is a great way to get some helpful ideas. I can't count the hours I've spent looking through the plethora of information already provided.

Welp, you better find ForestFrog here on the forum. She is a V-dub enthusiast, too and resides in the South Central section of the country.

That 74 VW Thing will NEVER pull a teardrop. I suggest that you immediately drive it up here to Las Vegas and let me take it off your hands! That way you won't be disappointed when you can't pull your teardrop with it. Keep in mind that I'm only trying to help out the new guy on the list!

I've always thought the Things were the cutest! I don't know if it's true but I heard that they are getting hard to find and the price shows it.

I think if you build lightweight you will be fine. Of course, if you are pulling with a Thing, you need a Weekender shaped tear...

That's what I was thinking too. Make a Weekender like a woody for the visual interest, and to match the stiffening ribs of the Thing's panelwork, then paint it to match. That would look cool.
The car that first interested me in TD's was a Type 3 with a matching trailer that I saw at a VW only show and shine.
