Double play trailer idea

Postby jp03 » Wed Jun 27, 2007 1:51 pm

Hi, been watching for awhile and appreciate everyones' input. Just purchased one of the new "REDTRAILER" 5 x 10 footers, to use as a flat bed/RV. Like another person mentioned, some way to convert like a pickup camper style. My present idea is a two foot side wall, around the front and two sides. Then have a tear drop or standup camper cap to slide on and bolt to the walls. The back two feet of the walls could be missing, to allow the whole back kitchenett/ bulk wall to add support. Only other thing i would like to mention is about the class hitch tongue weights. Some people have mentioned about overloading them highly. Class 1 is 150 lb, Class 2 is 250 lb., and class 3 I believe 350 lb. Please be awear of these factors. I am using a toyota matrix, to tow the redtrailer, and had to weld up the hitch to accept an 18 inch height. Matrix hitch receiver is made below the spoiler, so a good four inches lower then average hitch. Thanks again from everyones 2 cents!

Image to the playground JPo3. Haven't seen a tongue weight that was too heavy by class weight. However not sure I was looking. 8) :D

Enjoy the site. I would love to see an ongoing photo story of your design. We have a thing for pictures. Keeps the bubble oil level. ;)

At the last rally that I went to, someone had built a slide in teardrop on a trailer for dual purpose.

Check my album, specifically pictures:

Thanks Cuyeda, but hoping to blend the side a little more to blend into looks. Guessing to use the 2 x 4 side post/rail holders for the bottom wall potion. Incorperating 2 x 3 wall, to have a top lip to bolt down top partion. Still plainning, may not get to the camper top until next year.
