Hello, from Columbia, SC here

Postby Global Nomad » Sun Jul 08, 2007 8:56 pm

Hello everyone,

I am new to this website, having joined yesterday. My name is David Thomas, and my wife's name is Carol Ann. We just got stationed here at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, in Columbia, and we are going to pick up our first Teardrop camper next weekend. We just bought a 2006 Little Guy 4-Wide Retro to tow behind our 2006 Mini Cooper S (ironic, eh?). Anyway, we're both excited to get our hands on this camper and start exploring further from home as my schedule allows me.
I am an Instructor at the US Army Chaplain School, teaching Chaplain Assistants what they need to know at their units and in combat, and pass on my own experiences.

My wife and I are looking to find good accessories for the camper, which we're going to name the "Union Jack," since our Cooper is named the "Union Jackee" because of the artwork. We plan to have the same artwork done on "Jack" to match our Cooper. The big thing though, is that I am trying to get my hands on an electric kit, since the dealer ordered the camper without a power kit. I am sure I'll have to figure out how to install this myself (preferably without a premature electrocution)
:?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to reading and joining in conversations about teardrops. I find them cool and fascinating, and I didn't realize that there were actual clubs for teardrop owners.

Well, thats enough for now, take care and I"ll write again soon.

Another Mini, we have a few of those here. You might have seen them already since they are active on the mini forums.

We're not really a club or even a loose organization. Just a bunch of people who like to camp and visit with each other. Hang out here long enough and you'll get to know most of us. We you finally meet at a gathering it's like you have been life long pals.

So do as Doug says and go to a gathering, You'll be glad you did.

Looking through the Hall of Fame

Postby Global Nomad » Mon Jul 09, 2007 5:51 am

I was looking through the Hall of Fame at the top of this site, and you were right, I did infact recognize a teardrop from one of the Mini Rallies that I've been to, called the "Dragon Wagon." I saw it this year up at the Dragon in Deals Gap, SC back in April I believe it was. That was one of the reasons I got interested in Teardrops.

Hi Dave --- So are you a Chaplain or are you a civilian instructor? I was a Chaplain at a Midwest Military School for 15 year! My son might be assigned to Ft. Jackson later on this year ------ and we have a Mini Cooper (CVT) --- our son has the Cooper S. What tow bracket are you using?

Cooper S

Postby Global Nomad » Mon Jul 09, 2007 8:25 am

I an actually a Chaplain Assistant, and am working with AIT and BNCOC. I am ordering a Sport Hitch from MiniFini and am going to put it on myself when it arrives. Is your son a chaplain or a chaplain assistant? That will be cool to have 2 Cooper S's around here, there are about 5 or 6 here on post that I've seen. I think the Cooper and the Teardrop is a great combo.

Take care,

Dave

We are actually picking up the teardrop from a Little Guy Dealer in Claxton, Georgia, who has a few 2006s for about 3500-4000. They're just short the power package, but I can figure that out if I can get the right equipment.

As for the type of hitch, we're working on getting a hitch from MINIDOMORE.COM, and finding a place to get it installed here in Columbia, since the Mini Dealerships won't install aftermarket equipment.

Hopefully we'll have everything done by this weekend or next so we can pick up "Jack."

Take care,

My son with the Cooper S is the oldest -- Daniel the youngest is the one likely bound for Ft. Jackson --- he's with the National Guard.
