Hello from UK

Postby Chopper » Sun Jul 22, 2007 4:44 am

Hi everyone - Carl here in England, UK.

A bit about myself…
I live in Cheshire in the UK and work for the National Health Service. I enjoy travelling and tent camping amongst other things and was arranging to take my sons on a camping trip. You may have heard though that we are having a terrible summer and that a lot of the UK is experiencing severe rain and major flooding. So not ideal camping this year.

Teardrops and I…
Until a month ago I had never seen or even heard of a teardrop trailer. Driving down to the South of France on vacation in June this year we saw on the road some compact caravans called Eriba’s which looked really neat. So I got home and was looking them up on the internet when I stumbled across this site and saw my very first teardrop…………..WOW!!!! Well I’m now totally hooked and spend most of my spare time here. This site is excellent!

I have no particular engineering skills but am eager with the help of all the hints and tips on here to start construction. I already have in my possession my downloaded Benroy plans all nicely bound and as soon as funds allow I will be building my chassis and starting construction. I have never attempted anything like this before so all the information on this site is invaluable – keep up the good work and I hope very soon I will be contributing too and taking my very first trip with my own trailer.

Could someone tell me if the Generic Benroy Plans are to be updated sometime soon as I thought I read this someplace but cannot find this information again and does anyone know of any T&TTT clubs who meet here in the UK?
Regards to all you enthusiasts out there

Hi Carl,

Welcome to the forum.

I had not planned on updating the Generic Benroy plans anytime soon. Is there an area that you think needs more information?

The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten, so build your teardrop with the best materials...

Hi Carl, and a big welcome from his side of the pond. I am amazed that you had not even heard of a teardrop trailer over there in the UK. You have to do what ever you can to spread the word. As a matter of fact, when you do get your tear built, and you are filling up with petrol (gas over here), you will have the attention of everyone at the filling station.

Good for you for planning to build one of our little camping treasures. Hope all goes well, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. We have all been in need of construction info at one time or another. As a matter of fact, had it not been for the teardrop message boards, I could have never built my humble, little 4' x 8' retro vintage woody.

Remember, for the thousands of us who enjoy pics, be sure to take lots of shots of record of your build, since you can't go back and take them later. Oh yes, be sure to post them for all of us to enjoy.

Perhaps the Tearjerkers would allow a "Tearjerkers UK chapter"
I'm still at the drawing and scrouging bits & pieces stage, but it would be interesting to know how many completed, near completed & just started tears are in the UK.
