Hello from Northern California

Hi there.

I saw my first teardrop at a BMW 2002 swap meet and was intrigued enough to start some google searching. Found SoCal Teardrop's site, looked at their prices, looked at my wallet, and started researching building my own.

Big fan of the swoopier Modern and Grumman styles. Also like the textured panels of the one I saw at the BMW meet. My tow vehicle is likely going to be a car, so I am looking into the lighter weight building styles (structural foam, composites, etc).

The teardrop that started all this. Back end. Anyone recognize it or the owner?

Proposed tow vehicle: 1998 328i sedan. Our other option is my wife's Protege sedan. We are also looking at picking up a diesel Accord when those come out in 2008-ish. Or maybe a used Cherokee? Perhaps a Honda Fit? I have automotive ADD, can you tell?

Anyhoo, looking forward to doing more research around here and, I hope, actually starting a build at some point.

WELCOME aboard! I live just a few miles to your north, but work nearby (clue: check my email address).

There are a number of us loonies, I mean teardrop enthusiasts, in the area. If you want to build, you need to talk to Doug and Dan to see the cream of the crop. Then there is the rest of us. I have a Hunter Fat Shadow 5'x10' that was built in 2005. You are welcome to look at it any time - we're used to giving tours, as are all teardroppers.

Welcome. Having owned 4 320i's (and towed with)I will say your 328i should have no problem towing a tear. Another member here tows with a mini (dragon wagon), and likes the spirited driving your bmw was intended for. There is a video here somewhere. welcome

Nice to see you made it to the playground Russ. You shouldn't have a bit of trouble towing or building. Most of us end up manipulating the designs to some degree or other.
