brand new all over again!

Postby cccamper » Tue Jul 31, 2007 5:37 pm

hi!
just sent a post and noticed my profile snip said i joined in may 2007 and first post. guess i did something wrong and re-registered to make it easy!
so now we are new all over again. not me and the frog in my pocket, but my husband and myself.

we bought almost everything to build a tear about 5 (????) years ago. still have the 3 sheets of 5x8 baltic birch or fir (?). then "life" happened. got that straightened away. decided to go full time on the road. got a 31' vintage airstream and started gutting it to make our own (mtn. cabin style.. even with adirondack chairs instead of a sofa. :)

then "life" happened again and there is no way i will be able to be away from our area for an extended length of time. so now we are finishing up (after 2 years) our airstream to put in storage at lost valley lake resort where we have an ownership. (you buy a deedable ownership in the resort as a whole) it costs virtually nothing to store and for 6 or 7 dollars they will spot to a site and take back to storage so we don't need a tow vehicle.

this is all going well.. but what a big whallop hit me to think of never going on the road. it started to *really* bother me. so finally, last weekend, we went to see dana at missouri teardrops. we bought a silver shadow by the amish of "yoder toter". we LOVE it. waiting anxiously for our hitch to arrive - tomorrow according to tracking - so we can get it on and go pick up guppy!

guppy told us his name before we even had picked him out. the airstream is so insanely long and huge it looks like a whale.

my husband grew up in WV and never camped. i grew up in washington state and camped ALL the time, all summer. it was wonderful. bet my mom (today is her birthday, she just passed away may 4) would have loved to have had a tear instead of only a big canvas tent for she and dad and FOUR little kids 5 years apart in age. :) my part of the gifts she left for us is what is buying our guppy. of course it is from dad, too. (he died 9/11 ... but in MO )

have to go post asking about shelters for over the guppy.

guess if he is a guppy we are fish food! and sami is a "guppy puppy"

happy tearing around!

y'all get by ok with the windows open and a fan on? wondering... realllllyyy expensive to put in a/c. but my husband is pretty sure he can get a little window a/c to work - dealing with condensation, etc.

Hi, I too am new, seems like a lot of folks from MO>>>HMMMMM
Igot the impression you were looking for advise about a cover for your "GUPPY", FYI, I just bought a great ez up at Kmart locally that is 10' X 12'. the actual top measurement. It covers my TD really nice, They had them on sale this week for 99.00. I thought that was cheaper than a garage.. Welcome to the gang!! Happy Trails Marti :D

Welcome....hope you have fun with your guppy. Check out the thread on theOct 5-7 campout about 1.5 hrs west of Chicago. I know its a bit of a drive but at least still here in the midwest. I anxiously awaiting my first camping weekend next weekend too. I also bought one of those ez up type canopies at Walmart 10x10 and saw yesterday they are now on sale for $79.00. Set it up for practice and went up like a snap. Easy, well made and rolled tote bag. For a changing room and porta potty area I researched lots of different ideas, but for cost and simplicity I chose a Eureka Solar Shade - Large. Its tall enough to stand up fully, roomy enough for 2 chairs and can zip up one half enough for privacy. Goes up in a couple of minutes with just 3 poles. Check out this site: www.sunnysports.com Have fun!

hi!
thanks for all the helpful tips. and about the gathering near chicago. thats not a long distance to us. unfortunately (VERY!) i've got an appt. on 4th and am sure we won't be going anywhere. *sigh*

but then we are supposed to be able to go to see robert's sister in maryland. going to camp at a place called big bear in nearby west virginia (they are from morgantown) she's got a couple lots in the part of the campground where people can own. it should be a terrific place to teach guppy how to do things. actually, we will all be learning! hopefully we will be able to stay a whole week or even two.

last night i ordered the petcooler so we can do an install like earl showed with the cable hatches in the rear and hoses going under galley counter. we may need it for heat at big bear.

guppy is fantastic. so cute he's like a being not a thing. thats why it is so easy to call him guppy. kinda weird but it's the way it is. i've got to quit taking about how i want the tear shaped fenders and the smoothie/baby moon wheels or caps. don't want to hurt his feelings. :)

since we've only camped in trailers in the 20 years we've been married we are having to start all over re supplies. it's been fun! we finally decided to try to coleman hex. screen room. we can keep sami in that way. have the galley inside. got a privacy tent on sale for $50 at cabelas. not fancy but i didn't want to spend money and have it go to waste.

oooooohhhh sorry.

also after much pondering order the cabela's camp kitchen tonight. $120. everything we would like to have. guppy's galley is really tiny since he is only an 8' so we don't want to attempt to make it the kitchen. the nylon cupboard type things that hang from each end table on the kitchenn look great for storing dry goods and other essentials. etc etc. we'll see.

tonight i found the lodge big griddle for $30 on sale at jcpenney.com. yay!

lots of other little things. it's fun. it's a hope for us to go do *something* and get past the recent past!!!!!!!!! HALLELUJAH :)

now back to finding jsut where i read what the size images can be.. have a photo of us by the guppy when we picked him up sunday. that will make the avatar purists happy
