My Wife and I just got a TD after she has been looking for a couple of years.

Just got it not quite two weeks ago and already put about 1500 miles and 10 days of camping on it.

Sorry The pictures are so crappy, but all I have is my cell phone right now, my Canon took a dive ...

I already have made a few mods and have several to do this next week now that we have used it and know how to change stuff around.

It is a '07 Yoder Toter Silver Shadow 5X8, I got it from SeaView Chevy in Lynnwood..... Could probably have saved a little $$$ getting it on ebay but this way I don't have to worry about shipping ;)

We actually went over there to see the Little guys again after seeing them a couple years ago in Gig Harbor not knowing they had a Yoder Toter on the lot. Well after we saw a few Little guys we knew they were not for us... the quality is no where near what I had remembered from before. Every one of them they had on the lot had water damage in them, and some had the cabinets falling apart. The materials used in the constrution of the little guys is MDF and we all know what happens to that when it gets wet.....

Well I offered $3000 cash for one they had advertised for $4000 because I figured I would have to rip the insides out and redo all the cabinets. Well they basically laughed at me because they said that $4000 was already $200 under what they paid. I said what ever.... then we looked over the one nice one they had, the Yoder Toter..... the wife and I have kept our eyes on these for most of a year now and have seen how they are getting more popular and that beside a funny smell in some of them because of the finish used, nobody had any complaints.

So I told the guy flat out, No dickering give me the bottom price.... And they gave me a price lower than I expected...... so bottom line we ended up getting it.....

The quality of workmanship in this TD is outstanding.... The only problems I have noticed is a few spots where the finish is cracking from water, the back locks need adjusting to latch tighter, and I need to modify the under matress storage to access it easier...... but besides that it is good to go, nothing really to complain about....

I will probebly paint it to match my car and buy or make some different fenders, and I am going to replace the wheels to something alittle less classic looking since my tow car isn't a classic....

I am looking forward to hooking up with the NW tear drops as many times this next year hopfully starting in two weeks at Deming.

Welcome to the world of teardrops. Now that is the kind of post we like to read. First you had an interest that wouldn't quit, then checked out other tears and finally got the one you wanted at the right price. Taking it out and using it as much as you have fills me with envy. You will find that the teardrop bunch is so much more friendly than any others you have camped with. I am sure you have already experienced the lookie-loos, wanting to check out your rig. Enjoy it as many times as you can, and send some better pics when you get that camera fixed or replaced.

We had seen people post that they get all kinds of attention, questions and lookie-loos..... but I had no Idea how much it would really be...... Every camp ground we went to I had people stopping there rigs in the middle of the street to almost running up to us to check out what we had..... even just driving down the road you can see everyone pointing and talking to the others in their car about what they are seeing.... and the motion I see people doing most is opening their arms as to represent opening the galley as they are talking to the person next to them.

Actually I can take it in stride pretty well, because I am used to people looking at my cars and always asking me questions ;)

This is the first time I have ever done the RV side of things and I have noticed that no matter what size your RV is, everybody is family.... 8)

Oh ya we are having fun and we learned a lot way before we became members.... I find if you do a lot of reading before you sign up either you join being semi educated of what you are interested in, or you decide to bag it and move on and end up wasting nobody's time but your own.

your story tickled me a lot because it seemed too much like mine. me and my soon to be wife went to Gig Harbor to look at some little guys and we too were sorely disappointed at what we saw. but they had YT's on site. One had some cabinet damage and they offered it too me at a price that way below what the sticker for the good ones went for. i took it home that night and fixed the damage in less than 15 minutes. as for the tail hatch lock those wooden block wear out quickly. if you luck like i was you have some mechanist friends that will mill you some new ones for not too bad of a price.

Miriam, that's a fine looking tear, and when you get it painted to match the car, it will be a knockout and you will have to beat lookie-loos off with a stick.

I can relate to the notion of meeting another Miriam........Hmmm, I have never, ever met another Roly

It is pretty similar of an experience...

Ya know we stayed in Yakima less than two weeks ago at the Sportsman State Park...... I wanted to go see the Races across the HWY, but I was on Vacation and it is better spent with the Fam ;) But I did get to hear them racing at least.... and then the Fireworks after was pretty cool also. Man I so wish our legislators weren't a bunch of idiots, we could have been looking forward to a NASCAR track in Bremerton. But noooo that would not have been good for the Environment or economy or BLA BLA........ Oh Well.... :x

Welcome!

Postby 49er Teardrop » Tue Aug 14, 2007 12:43 pm

Glad you had a good time in Yakima. That's where I grew up (actually never DID). Now I'm in Naches area building on my teardrop. There were actually TWO on the road Sunday within 5 miles of here. Drop a line when you come thru next time for a coffee or whatever. All the best! --Vic

Thanks, this last weekend we went down to Mt. St. Helens and spent a couple nights.... I forget how much of a dust (ash) bowl it still is everywhere around there...
