Newbie From The Georgia Coast

Hey All,

Ran across this forum today, and have spent the better part of the day reading the posts. I'm interested in upgrading from tent camping, but don't want to go to something that is going to require purchasing a new truck to haul around. Also not interested in something that is going to require a lot of set-up (part of the reason I want to upgrade from tent camping). It's just me, so I really don't need a fullsize camper. The Little Guy Teardrops caught my eye as I was surfing; and that eventually led me here. Anyway, not sure yet what I am going to do, purchase or build, but from what I have read so far, this is probably the place to be either way. Just wanted to say hello.

Hi ya Kevin!

I too have gotten tired of the packing, set up, take down, repack, then putting it all away at home again. I haven't started my build yet but, having something "ready to go whenever I want to go" sounds really good to me. Going to a star party would be a breeze.

There's a heap-bunch of information here and some really good folks. If you can't find what you're looking for, they'll point you in the right direction.

Very nice of you all.

Brick, Wish I could take credit for building that scope. I bought it from a friend in New Mexico when he decided to upgrade to a bigger one. It was a kit, and he did a very good job of putting it together.

Smitty,

My thoughts exactly. The only things I want to be setting up at the Star Parties are my telescopes. We have a pretty active group here in Savannah, many of them have moved up from tent camping to RV's and they are getting out and seeing a bit more of the country as a result. Our next big event will be this November at Hamburg State Park over near Sandersville. Sadly, I will most likely still be in a tent at that point, but you never know, I may cave in and buy a TD before then. Clear skies.

Kevin, it looks like you are looking for a one-man tear, (or one-man and a very thin partner). If so, check out my gallery and see the 6 footer I put together. It can be built in a very short time, weighs only 245 lbs, has a full length bed (unless you are over 6 ft tall) and is inexpensive as well. Good luck on your efforts to shed the tent and simply back into a campsite with a teardrop and slip between the sheets, and that's it!

Roly, thinking of checking out the star-parties myself ;)

PS, there are a number of manufacturers listed here on the board, check em out and do what you can, to get into teardropping........soon!

Hi Kevin,

Welcome to the forum. You should find lots of great ideas for your build if you go through the members albums. If you're trying to decide on a style, you might go through the "Design Library" at the top of the page.

Anyway, I'm glad you joined and I hope you have fun, learn alot and get in and ask questions.

Hey Kevin,

Welcome aboard, I believe there is a place on Hwy 17 that sells Little Guys here in Savannah. The Ace Hardware in Claxton also sells them if you decide to go that route. Jim is over on the south side and I work out at JCB Inc, So give us a shout we will be glad to give you our expert advise

Thanks again everyone for the responses and great advice. Most of my spare time the past few days has been spent poking around this forum, so I guess you could say I'm kind of hooked.

David, thanks for the tip on the place out on Hwy 17. I did an on-line search for local dealers and found the place in Claxton, but it was the only one that came up. I may take a drive over there one of these weekends soon to get a first hand look.

I think I know about where Jim is over on the south side. I have a friend over on that side of town and someone with a teardrop lives in his neighborhood. I'll keep an eye out for him here on the forum.

Image to the playground Kevin. There is no cure for the addiction and the 13 step program doesn't work. There is only daily treatments of sawdust and pictures. Save your self and get out the :pictures: :hammer:
