Hello from Chesterfield, VA!

Postby katman » Sat Sep 15, 2007 10:10 am

Hi everybody!
My name is Bryce, I'm 45 years old and single. I have been wanting to build a teardrop for some time now. My hobbies are messing around with old Volkswagens and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. I have a '65 VW bus that I am planning to pull my home-built teardrop with. Anyone else here bitten by the VW '"bug"?
I am a self-employed trim carpenter with many years experience, so the building of a trailer body is not intimidating at all......the frame is where I stumble. I am trying to find a welding class to sign up for in my area but have not been able to find one. I am getting ready to build my "dream garage", not having a nice place to work on things has held me up quite a bit.
I have always liked small things like teardrop trailers, Volkswagens, motorcycles, Nash Metropolitans, mini-bikes, Austin-Healy "bug-eye" sprites, Austin Mini's (the old ones). I also like animals, especially cats.

Hi Bryce,

Welcome to the forum. If you want to know how to build a trailer frame, you have come to the right place. If you have questions, just go into the
" General Discussion" forum and ask. We have many people here that weld, men and women, so they should be a lot of help.

Anyway, have fun and when you start your build, post lots of :pictures: .

See you around.

to the playground Bryce. We have a trailer tutorial above just for those who make their own. http://www.teardroptrailers.us/Trailer.html

A trim carpenter will make a fine teardrop builder and I sure hope you join in a show the rest of us how to do it. Seems the trim is the thing that is the most tedious for some.

Enjoy and take lots of :pictures: :pictures: :pictures: Keeps the Madjack happy and the bubble oil level. 8)

Looks like we have some things in common --- my MGB is downstairs in the garage, my MINI Cooper (03) is the first NEW Mini I have owned in a look line of Mini's within my family -- oh! and I have a '67 VW Bug outside under a tarp! --- and a BIG Cat in the driveway (Jaguar) I'm from Culpeper, VA -- greetings

Bruce..........

Welcome and good luck on building the garage.

I laugh   because I had a new garge built and now it stores my teardrop and tools. No room yet for cars, go figure!

Have fun when you are ready for the start of your td project.

Hello Bryce,
I am in Richmond also and also am beginning a build. If you are interested in a 4 x 8 trailer, Harbor Freight has their "heavy duty" trailer on sale for $299. $100 off. The sale ends the 24th though. I bought mine the other day.
I bought one a year ago to build a teardrop but have been using it as an utility trailer hauling my tools around.
My tear will be dual purpose, camping and tool and supply hauler. I am a home improvement contractor and don't use trucks or vans so...trailers.
Keep all posted on progress as will I.
