Hello,

I'm Brian and I'm from Anderson, SC.

I've been "planning" to build a TD for the last twenty years or so and finally decided it's time to quit dreaming and start building. I've gone as far as to go to Tractor Supply and pick out my trailer. Baring any major disasters, I should be picking it up Saturday.

I can't believe the wealth of information on this forum and the great people who are so willing and eager to share it. My "thank you's" in advance because I'm sure I'll be wearing the site out, reading and rereading all the great information.

Thank you for all the great forums. I hope to converse with, and meet a lot of you as time goes by.

Brian

Welcome Brian,

Glad you decided to join. We are a fairly helpful group, so if you have any questions, just ask. But the most important thing is, as you start your build, be sure and post :pictures: :pictures: :pictures: .

See you around the campfire.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

As for the picture and name on the first post, I always figured it best to scare the townspeople right off the bat and then give them a chance to warm up to it. The beard can only hide so much.

Yes, Mary, twenty years is a very long time. I did the travel trailer and tent routine when my children were growing up. Now I'm way too old to be sleeping on the ground, and my Toyota pick-up is one heck of a dependable ride, but it would probably drop its drive train pulling anything heavier than a teardrop. It's just me now, so a teardrop is just what the doctor ordered.

Chip, I could probably holler out he window to you. I'm glad to see locals in here. Is there a club or group of you locally who camp together?

Thanks again for your kind welcome. I hope to one day be able to contribute to the forum instead of just benefiting from all the information.

See you in the funny papers..........

to the playground Brian. Chip and the East Coast crowd should keep you busy camping. They seem to always have something going on.

Building is a great way to get what you want and have a little fun. We do need the :pictures: :pictures: cause it keeps the bubble oil level and the Madjack and Aussie happy. :D

Hi Miriam,

I'll definitely post some pictures. I picked up the trailer yesterday and I'm already chomping at the bit to get started.

If anyone's interested, I was really treated like royalty at the local Tractor Supply. I found a well built 2000 lb., 4X8 fully assembled trailer, (actually built just a few miles from here), wired with 12' tires for $289.00. They took it in the shop and checked and rechecked everything before they gave it to me, and were just plain easy to deal with and talk to.

I have my plans pretty well decided, but I need to find a reasonably priced supplier for windows so I can get some exact measurements before I start the frame. I've gone the non-conventional route as far as design goes, but it's something I've been tossing around in my head for quite a while. Does anyone know of a supplier they might recommend? I'm actually looking for the bubble type tinted windows that you see on a lot of the new travel trailers.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Brian

Hi Brian. Here is a site you might want to check out, if you are into forming your own bubble windows to fit into pre-existing frames of your choice:

I appreciate the response Roly. That'll be a fun project and, if it works, it'll really set my TTT apart. Is this something you've tried? Did it go well?

It'll be a while before I get to that phase, but I just may give it a shot. If I do, I'll post a few snapshots.

Thanks again.

Brian, many tears with rounded fronts have a problem getting a window to match the curve. I succeeded in building the frame and the sash to match the curve, but have tried 3 times to make a suitable plastic curved window. I built a matching curved mold and laid a flat piece of acrylic plastic on it in the oven.

I turned on the oven, kept looking through the glass to see it it was getting soft enough to sort-a melt onto the mold. When I thought it looked good, I whipped it out to cool, which made the whole thing warp into an unusable hunk of twisted plastic.

The second one turned out better, but shrunk so much that it was too small for the sash. The third one was the charm, fit the mold just fine but for some reason 2 matching huge bubbles formed to create an unexpected double-bubble window. Those that see it think it is supposed to be like that and who am I to tell them differently?s

I have been told that I should have left it in the oven while it cooled down without opening the door. Hopes this helps, good luck. I know it can be done, all it takes is practice. BTW, there are a couple of bubble windows that were designed for a cessna airplane, on Ebay. They are brand new but cost about 150 bucks a pop.

I do appreciate the replies.

I just got back from one of the local camper supply stores and about had a stroke. They're real proud of their windows. I think I'm going to have to order them online. I was initially worried about the shipping, but the online windows I've found, with shipping, are still half the price of the local suppliers. I like dealing with local businesses, but not to the point of bankrupcy.

I'll let you know how it turns out. If you see my name in the local obits, you'll know I had that stroke.

See you in the funny papers.
