I'm just about ready to start building my very first teardrop. I have someone who will build the metal trailer part, and I've talked my woodworker friend into helping me with the construction, but I'd love to find a site that would give me a few ideas for a custom vintage paint job. I'm planning on painting the wood sides and vintage replica fenders, and will have an aluminum roof. Any good links would be much appreciated. Also, if there is anyone local, I'd love to hear from you!!!

Its a shame, we just had a gathering out your way 2 weeks ago. A lot of home builds, a few manufactured ones.

There's a guy, Rich who's from Butler, PA. His list is at the top. Rich's List (Feb 06) I'm sure he'll chime in soon.

Happy Trails

Hey Housewife,

Welcome to the forum...

I thought I recognized the name... (Zelienople). I used to pass by there all the time on the way to Pgh.

As for people close by, I know there are folks in both OH and PA. You'll just have to keep your eyes open for a gathering...

to the playground 1940's housewife. I have never seen a list of tradition paint schemes but I have only been here a year and a half. I imagine they vary as greatly as those we build today.

Enjoy the build and please keep us in :pictures: :pictures: :pictures: Not only do they keep the bubble oil level they can be your best friend if you need to ask a hard question or better yet---show off 8)

Welcome 1940sHousewife,

First question... Do you have a first name? Typing 1940sHousewife over and over is really time consuming. :D

But if not, I hope you enjoy the forum and show us pictures of your build as you progress.

See you around.

Thank you all for saying hello! My name is Patti, so you can call me that (I just think that I was reincarnated from a blissfully happy housewife back in the 40's, which could explain my love of teardrops and my screen name).

I'll take plenty of photos of the process, and I'm lucky enough to have Rich (who led me to this site) helping me with the frame. Now all I need to do is find the retro fenders, then pick out some white wall tires. Any help in that department would be swell. I've checked out a few sites, but I'm not sure who to order them from.

I'm really bummed that I just missed a gathering - now that I've decided to build one, I'm really psyched to see some others. I have my color scheme settled on, but want to maybe do some 40's style graphics on the sides.

I'm sure I'll be asking a lot of questions once I start, so thanks in advance for your help. This site is a great resource!

The question I have is how is Zelienople pronounced - its spelling looks wonderful.

I looked it up in Google and that told me the pronunciation is
[ˌzi:lɪəˈnoʊpəɫ]

but you can guess that I'm not much wiser for that!

Is it: zee-lee-en-op-ul?

Yes! You are a master at phonics... it was bad enough that I had to always spell my long Polish last name, then I moved to a town with an even harder name to spell! Apparently, the guy who named the town had a daughter named Zelie. I think 'Zelietown' would have been much easier.

Zelienople is about 1/2 hour north of Pittsburgh. I used to live in Boston, so I've driven through your neck of the woods about a million times coming home for visits. Gee, I could have used a teardrop back then instead of trying to find a hotel that would let me have a dog!
