Newby with big ideas (Aliner)

Postby sseaman » Thu Oct 11, 2007 5:23 pm

First i would like to say how cool this site is, i have been kept up late at night with all kinds of crazy ideas on trailer designs.

We currently have an Apache popup that we bought cheap to see if the wife and kids would want to stick with camping, they have loved it this year so i want to step up a little bit.
I know this site is mainly geared towards teardrop, but i want to copy some of the construction ideas to build something similar to a Aliner. I have taped of the garage floor playing with sizes and designs, and filled a notebook with ideas.

Hopefully we can sell the popup soon and get started with a goal of being ready to go by spring.

Welcome to the forum...

My plan is to model up an Aliner this winter in CAD. Mabye even come up with a few drawings... What timing eh?

Mike...
The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten, so build your teardrop with the best materials...

Welcome to the forum!

I'm about 1/2 way thru the frame off resto of this '94 Alite Aliner:

You may wanna consider this Assymetrical roof instead of the normal equal A

I think its design goes a LONG way to prevent the typical A roof configuration roof leaks!

Cheers,

Coop

i thought about that different design, but with 4 of us camping we really need more sleeping space, for 2 people it looks great though

i started toying with this idea this weekend and have taped up the profile on the garage wall. i think i can get the sleeping area and just give up a little open space, looks a lot easier to build

sseaman-

Yep-

Basically a box with a lid (front roof) that fits over it!

Throw in your side walls & back roof and your on your way!
