Hi Miriam,
It is not a pickup as you would know them, just a little British thing........hence the teardrop.Camping does not have the same appeal as it had, bones are a bit sore.
Thanks for the welcome. Billy.

Hey Billy,

Does it say what the tow weight is in the owners manual? That will help determine what you can build.

Sorry - I missed your first post Billy. Size is no problem to a pickup camper - there's a mini pickup enthusiast in Belgium for who I did several designs of a pretty-much-viable camper, such as these:

I still say that's more closely related to a cross between a go-cart and a wheel barrow than a pickup truck!!  I don't think the Subaru Brat's were even that small!

 Well the good thing is that Billy wants to build a teardrop. The answer is yes you can as long as you keep in mind weight requirements. Roly has one that is less than 500 pounds and another (single person) that is even less.. Have a look around the Hall of fame and sit with some paper or CAD and decide what you like.

pickup

Postby Billy Purves » Thu Jan 10, 2008 1:57 pm

Hi Guys, sorry for not responding sooner.
I just had a look in the owners manual and it does not show a tow weight but it will pull 1000lbs no problem thats British pounds.
As for designs I am spoiled for choice and in a bit of a turmoil as I like the "woodies" and the metal skinned trailers.
So how do you choose?
Billy.

I once owned an almost new Datsun pickup with a 1200 cc engine. It would do pretty well down the road, but when I put a tall "camper" on it, similar in height to this design, I had trouble getting it up to 55 mph.

Don't remember the mileage, but it had to be awful.

And I'm still around ! The onlu progress untill now its that the pick-up is going in next month to get roadworthy again, the aim for now to get some sort of camperunit on top of it, is the International Mini Meeting / 50th mini anniversary next year in May, in the UK.

Just gotta love those Mini's! Oh for the one we had in the 60's! Seven of us in a Mini touring the West Country. Dad driving, Uncle riding shotgun, Mum and Aunt in the back seat with my older brother and sister....leaving me with ..ah hum!...the only place left between my Dad and Uncle in the front sitting on the ...handbrake! (that's the emergency brake) with a cushion stuffed down around it. We travelled thousands of miles every summer like that. Glad to say that I suffered no permanent damage!
