UK Newbie says hi!

Postby Bristol Delica » Wed Mar 26, 2008 6:32 am

Hi from Bristol in the UK

Got interested in the Teardrops by chatting to Jackdaw who's a member here as well of another online community for Mitsubishi Delica owners here in the UK which we both belong to.

I've been looking for an alternative to our caravan (travel trailer) and tent and had dismissed trailer tents as too complicated and lacking weather protection (might as well take the tent!) these babies look ideal as we will be able to tow one with both our 4x4 and our small car.

Looking forward to picking up info and inspiration before taking the plunge and starting a build.

IanJ

Welcome - we are definitely going to have to start some specific British designs with so many Brits appearing on this forum. Teardrops are very definitely an all-American idea, but they did exist in Britain as well. Here is the Berkeley Caravette:

And then a bit larger we have some of the small touring caravans - Mike (who runs this forum) is a bit of an addict where the Raven Argonette is concerned:

Hello and welcome to the Forum. As Andrew says we are increasing in numbers. All we need now is a gathering, I`m working on it.

Take loadsa pics as you go along and post em on here to keep us happy
Its hard to get to a gathering to see others(unless you can swim along way!) so look around on here and see what you like 8)

Hi Ian,
I'm glad you found us

There are some truely awsome trailers in the hall of fame ,

As with the Delica, you have loads to read up on before jumping in.

Having said that.........I've been offered a small caravan by someone passing by the house, seeing the tear on the drive. Its got a good fridge, cooker units etc. that I could use . I may have a spare chassis going cheep If your interested. :D :D

angib, I need to thank you for your plans in the design library. My tear is made up of a couple of profiles. Its a bit like the Grumman 2, without the inset wheels.

Heres a couple of shots of our little Delica gathering on the Beach , Bank holiday Monday;

Cheap chassis sounds a good 'un.

Let me know how it goes and I'll figure out how to pick it up.

Hi again

I found a cheap second hand travel trailer ($100) with a good galvanized chassis and have started stripping it down to the floor. I will then cut the floor to width and height and start building up from there. Hoping to get the strip down finished this weekend and we have a week off at the end of the month to get some serious building done (wish me luck)

I'm going for weekender style.

Will post pics more as the build progresses:

Gonna keep these for the galley:

If there is one opening window you don't use, you can send it to The Netherlands. :worship: :worship: Just a little one.

The only little window is the one from the WC. It's opaque but it's yours if you want it and want to pay the postage.

Hi Ian,
Those window hinges are perfect for a hatch hinge. I found some on the donor trailer I picked up. It was a real bonus as I hadn't even thought of the hinges as being recycleable :D :D

My galley area has been as dry as a bone since it was fitted :D :D

It just needs a little silicon in the rebate the prespex sat in.

Keep up the good work

Cheers Dave.

Quite pleased with progress this weekend.

Looking forward to construction now.

PS

Dave, unfortunately the window hinges from the Trophy ain't as beefy as the ones you have used so I will be looking elsewhere for the galley hinge.
