Hello all! Newbie here :D

Hi! I'm Jen from central Maine. My hubby and I have been dreaming of building a teardrop for a while now. We put our plans on hold in favor of some home improvement projects, but after the winter we've had up here I have started dreaming again (mostly of camp sites in warm places!!). We decided on a teardrop because we think it will fit in well with our current summer hobbies of biking, geocaching, hiking, and traveling.

I'm really looking forward to getting to know you! Who knows, maybe we'll even see each other on the road one day :D

As far as plans go, we do have one (or should I say two) very important design considerations. We have two boys, a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old, who will be traveling with us, so we are challenged with designing a trailer that sleeps four.... comfortably! We have a few ideas and I'm looking forward to cruising around the forums picking up more ideas! The first thing we're planning on doing to accommodate four is to build a 5' X 10' trailer. Another idea we had was to suspend cot/hammock things in the trailer for the boys. Any other suggestions would be great, too!

Image to the playground Jen and Hubby. We have a bunch of people who built their TD's for children.

Here are some to look at:

The last is EZ's and he has two children. Great set of bunks. You can have it and a galley if you make it longer.

Enjoy the planing and ask as many questions as you like. 8)

Welcome Jen, you'll find lots of ideas on here and lots of nice people to give them to you.
I sleep 4 in mine, Me my wife and twin 4 year olds.
If you can stretch it to 6' wide it opens up the possibility of sleeping sideway and a lot of options for sleeping 4. Mine is 6'3" x 11'6", built on an old popup frame.
I would think it would be hard to get 4 in a 5x10 because you have to sleep long ways. Now these are just opinions and I'm sure with all the help that's offered on this forum you can come up with a way to do it.
I'll be watching with interest and don't forget the :pictures:
I'm so shocked that Miriam didn't tell you about the pics ,she must be tired tonight.

Hi Jen! I recently joined the forum too, because we just bought a teardrop to expand our traveling/camping options with our one year old. (and because I have just fallen in love with them). Anyway, the one we got is a 5X9 and the previous owner extended the original ledge in the back to accomodate his two boys. Two adults sleep on the floor and I am told that the two boys fit comfortably on the ledge (perpendicular to their folks) until they were about 8 years old. When we lay down in there, the ledge/loft comes over to about our knees but is high enough that it is not stuffy.

Below is a picture, but please ignore the mess and imagine that the sleeping bags are gone and that space goes back further.
Hope that helps!

Hi Jen and Hubby,

Welcome to the forum. For some ideas of trailers that others have built, you might want to check out the "Hall of Fame" in the upper left of each page. There are some larger trailers shown there.

See you around.
