Newbie from Texas

Postby Jim T » Wed May 14, 2008 10:01 am

Hello everyone!
I have been scouring the site for information for about 6 months and this weekend I will start my first trailer, a teardrop on steroids! I have been camping for 20+ years, and am looking forward to continue camping with a little extra comfort. I am not as young as I used to be! Since camping in Texas for me is not an option (I have this thing about 100 degree + heat, humidity, mosquitos and other critters whose world I am invading), I will take the summer to build my trailer and be ready for camping season next October. ;) Looking forward to meeting ya'll and maybe even finding a gathering in this part of the world!
Thanks, Jim

Welcome! Better reserve your space for LCGIII in October. It is "THE" premier TD event of the year. 8)

Yes, it's five months away, but over half of the spaces are reserved already.

Welcome to the board, Jim. Looks like you have an idea what your new build will look like. Now, fill us in, what shape, length and style suits your fancy. Do try to attend the gatherings in your area, you will get lots of ideas and advice, if needed. Good luck, take pics, ask questions, and get ready to change your idea of camping. Just think, always a dry bed, not on rocks or critters, you'll love it.

trailer

Postby Jim T » Wed May 14, 2008 6:19 pm

Roly,
The overall shape will be similar to a teardrop, but the trailer will include a bathroom and will be 5'8" tall to enable us to stand (or stoop). The back will not have a traditional hatch, but will slope down to cover a 4' tall storage area that will open from the back.

Mainly because I don't want to overload the Jeep Liberty that I am going to be pulling it with. With it being 5x10 1/2 and about 7' high, I am being cautious.
