New in Colorado and Ty-Dean Customs

Postby CrocTears » Tue Sep 23, 2008 8:52 am

Hi,

I am an enthusiastic newbie in Colorado. Husband and I have camped for several years first in a tent, then truck camper, lately in a LQ horse trailer. There are many places we'd like to go camp without having to drag the horse trailer, and we are getting used to having a warm, flat place to sleep. Enter the Teardrop Trailer Madness.

I like building things, and we have been refinishing the interior of a LQ horse trailer for a few years. I felt a teardrop is a doable project for me to work on, with a little help from my husband.

Anyway, I saw a design for a box-ish teardrop I really liked up on Ebay, and it looks like they based it on Ty-Dean Customs plans. I ordered the plans last night, and am looking forward to receiving them.

I'm sure the question has been asked before, but can I start building the camper without having the trailer yet??? Not sure if I am buying a trailer, or if I can somehow con my brother into building me one (he's a good welder, if you can get him motivated).

Welcome to Teardroping.

I hope you know that there is a teardrop gathering "The Last Gasp" down at the Royal Gorge this weekend. If you can make it you will see alot of different TDs and get alot of advice and questions answered about building a TD.

Thanks! I hope whomever goes to the gorge can get some great pictures - I can't go, unfortunately.

I forgot the picture. FIL, me, and DH working on the deck.

I'm sorry that you can't make it down this weekend.

You need to get your brother to weld a frame for you. You can make it exactly the way you want. It may cost a little more but it is worth it. Rember that the frame doesn't need to be overbuilt. The body will add a ton of strength.

I will bribe/blackmail my brother. I guess it would pay to give him the case of beer after the welding is done?

Image to the playground CrocTears. You can do it! I had never built a complete project other than book shelves and some home remodeling. Get a design, and make some sawdust. I agree with the home build trailer. Getting what you really want will help down the road.

Pictures are very important here as they keep the bubble oil level. 8) Oh and we love them.

Enjoy!

Welcome fellow Coloradoian! I am planing on going to the Last Gasp (on the off chance that my old Bronco can take over for my broken tow vehicle) and will have my camera. Anything special you want me to try to get a picture of? I just "finished" my tear earlier this month and have been out a couple of times already!
