Newbie from Alabama

Postby Maloppa » Sun Jan 11, 2009 12:01 am

Greetings. I am new to the teardrop world but plan to build the camper I have had in the back of my mind for a while now. I plan to model it in the teardrop form with some modifications. I look forward to learning and getting input from the vast amounts of knowledge I have seen in the forums.

Welcome aboard, Maloppa. You have come to the right place to get info on a teardrop build. Perhaps you could be more spacific regarding what sort of design you have in mind. Fill us in and we'll give some good advice, but not try to change your mind.

You might check out the Hall of Fame, in the upper left. Lots of different designs there to help you decide what your tear could look like. If you have been reading previous posts, you know Auntie M insists on pics of your build, so be forewarned. Good luck.

Thanks for the welcome. I will start a thread when I actually get started. The primary idea is to take a couple of Jeeps and a TON of imagination. I think weight will be my primary concern so I will look for many ideas for reduction and advise. Stage one will be to build a rolling shell. I have started stripping the tub and plan to get it into the garage to start the build tomorrow.
I already have the outer part done, just with the tub, doors and hard top.

A plus is that every thing that fits a Jeep can be used, like racks.
To balance the length I plan to take a second tub and cut it to make a small bed and add it behind the box. This is the primary plan.

Of coarse I will tow it with my YJ. I think even if it doesn't work secondary to weight I plan to finish the project and could always sell it on ebay. Besides I got a new welder and need a project. To many Jeep parts lying around too.
