Hello all this is my first post on this website, I have been visiting this site since December of 08; I joined the site last week.

I waited that long to joining, only because I was still in collage at the time, and I need to commit my time to my studies. Over my winter break I was addicted to this site, so I made my self swear it off till I finished my last final exam this spring.

Fist I was interested in buying a teardrop, but the more and more I research the more I knew I can build my own and be very satisfied with the outcomes.

Last week after my final, I built a 1:10 scale teardrop model out of cardboard and glue. I also have been on this site and similar sites just reading and learning about tips and techniques of past builds form seasoned builders.

I have been driving my family friends and fiancée nuts about teardrops. I think they all want to shove that model I made down my mouth just to make me be quiet for a minute.

Yesterday I took the biggest step so far to building a teardrop, I ordered a 5X8 trailer from NorthernTool.com and ordered plans form kuffel creek. Today I have printed the kuffel creek plans and the Benroy plans and have read them front to back. Today and tomorrow I plan on setting up my garage and tools to start the build hopefully by Tuesday next week.

This is my start; I plan on taking photos of every thing from the build to the first time I go out camping with the tear. This will be my summer project so hopefully I can complete it before I start classes again in early September.

Stephen, welcome to the forum and to the world of Teardrops.

There are many places to meet fellow teardroppers in NYS as well as several great gatherings to attend.

Wait until you friends and fiancee see the final product. They'll be amazed.

Stephen, welcome to the best TD site on the net. Good for you, suspending your dreams of becoming a teardropper until after your studies were over. ( I don't know how you did it). Out of site, you have made a giant step, making a scale model of your dream trailer. (I've got a dozen of 'em) Then you have ordered a frame and have even obtained plans to follow along as you progress on your build. (Remember, there are basic plans available right here on the board, check 'em out)

You know, you can make changes, size alterations, material revisions and such, so that your trailer has been Stephen-ized, and will not look exactly like many others. I am a proponent of thinking out of the box, and enjoy seeing what others can do by pulling ideas out of mid air. One suggestion I might make, and I don't mean to step on Kevin Hauser's toes, but in my humble opinion, a built-in icebox, can be eliminated and much more useful storage space could be built in the pantry cabinets. Just my 2 cents. There are great cooler boxes that can be carried seperately that will keep ice for 3 days, a feat that I don't think you can do with a home-made built-in.

Do check out all of the ideas on the Hall of fame and the galley-only pages. You can get a bunch of ideas that you might want to incorperate in your build. Now, on with the woodwork, and all of the other stuff. Good luck, remember, pics, post em, and come to So Cal and pay me a visit.

Thank you guys for the support I am sure I will have many questions, but right now I am just doing small steps like making right angle jigs, and sawhorses, and organizing tools. Like I said hopefully next week I can start on the tear.
