Newbie from Florida

Postby kempshark » Fri May 29, 2009 5:19 pm

Hi, I'm new to the forum and new to teardrops. I've been looking at them online for a few years or more, and I think I may have to attempt building one myself. As you can see from the subject line I'm in Florida, so I think a/c will be a must and not an option......especially seeing how I tend to spend a lot of time in the Florida Keys every year.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to start a build in the not to distant future.

Welcome to another Floridian!

We've had our Teardrop in the Keys a couple of times at Boyd's Campground on Stock Island by Key West. You are right, AC isn't an option in Florida, neither is a good roof mounted RV Fan.

Welcome aboard, I agree, an AC is definately a must, if you intend to spend time in the Keys. I have an 85 dollar, Home Depot AC unit, which slips right into my tongue box, where I have cut supply and return holes through into the inside of my teardrop. I have a scoop which blows the cool air up and over the pillow and along the ceiling. I really think it would freeze ice on the windows, if it left if on for an extended period.

I say go ahead and build that tear. First step: buy, build or steal that trailer frame. From there it only a matter of a floor, 2 sides and the roof, and you've got 'er built. All you have to do then is finish it. I remember crossing Florida with my motorhome, I think from Homestead to Flamingo, when we came across a sign which proudly read: "Florida continental divide........elevation 3 feet!"

Loved traveling in your state, come and travel in mine, when you get your teardrop finished...........
