hay

i have visited and followed yall...but just registered and this is my first post

i am unable to find plans for a teardrop pod 6'wide x 5' height x 10' long that still maintains the most beautiful traditional 'wing-like design'

i apologize if i am asking a dumb question and not looking in the right place

any ideas, other than modify-ing existing more traditional size plans (4x4x8) ?

i appreciate any help

keep the faith

This is the method I used to attain the true airfoil design. This 4x8 design was refined with Andrew's help almost 2 years ago. Mine is 5'7" wide , 5'3" +/- ? tall and 10' nose to tail. Wife and I are big people and the Scottish terrier wants her 1/2 to sleep too . It has proven to be a great size for us. The beauty of using the radius method is that all parts can be cut with a router mounted on a long stick and the cuts are perfect. Even your trim halo can be cut this way. Get a compass and a drawing scale and play a bit by altering the values you can achieve a multitude of looks.
I didn't like the pointy tail so I bobbed mine in the back with a radius again.

If you look way back at my 1st posts( members designs , teardrops have curves) Andrew , I , and others discussed this method. Have fun with this there is no wrong profile if you like it and when you see it on paper you will know it will speak to you.

The 10' "wing-like design" you're thinking of is probably the Cub/Modernistic... it's a beautiful shape, for sure.

If you can't find what you're looking for (and I haven't seen it, and I've looked at over 1000 different teardrop trailers), then may I suggest you try what I'm trying: draw your design yourself, on grid paper. Keep free-hand drawing until you're close to what you think miight appeal to you if only the curves were neat. Hahaha... I'm no artist, either.

The trouble is that when we alter a profile just one inch, it changes everything else about the proportion... it's a tough go, this, but keep at it.

A 'french curves' stencil set will help immeasurably... that's what I'm using now. It sure is cheaper and takes less time at this stage of the design than a full-sized mockup in, say, cardboard or whatever...

Good luck to you. I hope you can create what you'd like! I'm eager to see what you come up with. As I said, I'm doing the same, but in a 4 X 4 X 9 footer.

If it really is the Cub/Modernistic shape that you're after, here is a 10ft x 5ft version - which is starting to look a bit dumpy:

And here are the locus points for drawing the ellipses:

You may want my drawing ellipses guide as well.

But your 'pure wing' comment makes me think you may be looking for a profile that comes to a point at the back.
