I'm new and want to build.

Greetings to All,
My name is Dave and hail from Elysian, MN, about 70 miles southwest of the Twin Cities. I and getting twitchy to start building my own tear, but I need a job first, they are far and few btween as I'm sure some of you may know :x. I do need some advice though. I am uncertin whether I should use epoxy or polyester resin. I know epoxy is harder and less brittle but is it worth it concidering it is 3x the price of polyester?
I am going to build a fair size tear so I don't know if that would have a bearing on it or not. It will be 10x6x approx. 5' high at the center (almost big enough for a queen size bed.)
Any help or advise will be a great help.
Thanks,
Dave

Happy 4th David Do you plan to glass the whole thing ?? and that is a big tear 5 wide will fit a queen just fine when you get closer to your build
ask a lot of questions and think about your build and draw a lot of pictures
that helps a lot

Hi Dave, new builders are always welcome. Think hard and long about what you plan to cover your teardrop with. Fiberglass requires a lot of sanding and finishing, and aluminum eliminates all of that. Never the less, follow your dream, and ask questions about any part of your build, any time. Good luck, and oh yes, Woodys and pretty nice, too.

Roly,
that is one beautiful tear you have there.
What did you use for your front window? plexyglass or lexan?

dvendt, it is plexi, and it is the 3rd one I made. I made a matching, curved wooden form and laid the plexi on it in the oven. The first one shrunk and was too short to use, The second one twisted and bent because I was in too much of a hurry to take it out of the oven. The third and final window, has a couple of puckers or bows in it, that look they were intended to be there, so I installed them and no one knows the difference, (except me). Most curved-front tears don't have openable windows, but I was determined to try to make mine curved and openable, after much trial and error. Hey, guess what, it doesn't even leak, much to my surprise.
