Need your opinion on a Craigslist Teardrop

Postby drakcol 6 » Thu Aug 20, 2009 12:42 pm

Hello, I'm just getting into Teardrops. I think I may have found one to buy. I know you can't tell much from this ad, but I sure would appreciate any of you looking at this craigslist add and giving me your first or general impressions on what you see.

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/rvs/1329453420.html

The first thing that came to my attention was the size of the wheels. Do they look too small to you?

What about the description of the outerskin?

Any thoughts would be appreciated

thanks

Looks good to me. Nice and lightweight. And close to home. Is the price firm? Smaller the wheel, the more wear and tear on the teardrop. Also have you check the Teardrop Forum classifieds ? :lol:
Good luck,
Bill and Marijo

One thought is that it looks like the builder has left the wheels in the position they come as standard on the utility trailer, which is fairly near the middle. This means you can't carry a lot of weight in the galley without risking a very light hitch weight, which is bad for towing stability.

There are thee ways round that:
- don't put much weight in the galley;
- or, put as much weight in the galley as you want, but move the heavy items to the front of the cabin for towing;
- or, move the axle back (not too hard with these trailers).

For as small as the wheels are, look at the width of the door. I don't think the average person would have an easy time getting through that door. If you think it will work for you then go kick some tires. Personally, I would pass on that one.

Yep, I'm with the previous posters. The 8 inch wheels could be swapped out for 12 inchers, which will fit the HF bolt pattern, but the wheels are too far forward to suit me. Also, the door is absolutely too small and there don't seem to be any other windows other than in the doors. So, my advice is pass on this one, and perhaps you will find one that is more suited to your tastes.

Another thing to take into consideration is how the doors are sealed and what kind of galley hinge is being used. Perhaps the owner would allow you to spray the exterior down with a garden hose, and if so, there is a possibility that you might find some moisture problems. Better to find the problems sooner than later. Good luck in your search.

I appreciate all of your thoughts. I think you are right. I'm going to pass on this one. Emailed with the builder and found out that it has no insulation, no electrical wiring and the galley is very small (no depth). I'll remain patient and keep looking.

Hi Roly,
I'm a new member, and just posted my hello. But I came across your post and looked at your site. I have to say your td is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I've never seen anything else crafted with such love, it is an absolute work of art, and love. I have many posts to look through, I'm sure there are many other amazing creations here, but wow. Just wow. I hope it returns to you everything you gave it.

(My cousin makes the most amazing things with wood, I am going to teasingly suggest he whip one up for me!)
p.s. You gave great feedback for a new buyer, which I appreciate. I know very little besides the fact that a td is where my heart is.

I wouldn't have got it just because it said FRP on the roof.
