Getting the first post outah the way...

Postby Jiffypop207 » Wed Sep 09, 2009 9:07 pm

Greetings from Southern Maine. Stumbled upon this site in my internet quest for teardrop trailer information and decided to settle in and use this as my home base for research and build sharing. I am currently in the research/design phase of my build and have an idea of what I would like to be looking at when it is all said and done, but I need to read up on some individual elements of the trailer in order to achieve my goal.

List of things that I envision in my trailer:
-Frame from scratch
-12v and 110v wiring
-Infrared panel heater (maybe)
-Mini-fridge (mights well use what you have kicking around)
-Queen size bed
-Gravity fresh water tank (my hose water tastes better than bottle water)
-Aluminum skin

List of worries:
-Fit, finish and seal of galley hatch
-Taking my time to arrived at my intended outcome.

See you in the Forums,

Adam

Adam

Welcome to the madness

Your list is pretty basic, I'm sure it well be modified several times while your in the planning stages.

As to the hatch don't let it scare you, plenty of information with-in the site.
Just take it one step at a time and it will come together just fine.

What info you can't find just ask, we're all just waiting for those questions and the photo's you will be taking to document your build.

You'll be camping sooner than you think....

Thanks for the encouraging words. Basic is good as I have camped in various tent forms in the past and have an idea of what i would really like with me on a trip. Did a top view layout this morning and my body will be 5'-6" x 10'-6" Overall length should be close to a utility trailer that I built a few years back.

Those Dimensions will put your tear into the large category, if there are categories, but I have seen several tears in the 6' wide zone of late.

Extra wide just makes planning material layout a bit more of a challenge
the standard size in sheet stock is still 4 x 8 but 5 x 10 is becoming more readily available accross the country.

Just keep thinking out loud, if you begin to head into uncharted territory, I'm sure someone will speak-up to keep ya out of trouble or at least wave a red flag for more discussion.

Welcome to the board! If you haven't yet discovered sdtropper2's index (up above among all the links) check it out!

My daughter just got back from a trip to Maine. She loved it. Her description: kind of like Cape Cod only more relaxed, more flannelly, and more lobstery. :)

Everything here but the taxes are great. Cool enough tonight to throw on my flannel-lined jeans. Where did she visit. Yes, I have found that list and have been working my way through it as thoughts arise. The collection of parts has officially begun. Guess I need to start a thread to document my build so i can add to it as I go.

Yeah.....large is my usual category. I am 6'-9" and my wife is 6'-nil. Figured if I was gonna do it, then I should do it right the first time.

.Now, that is a great reason for going LARGE, ours is a 4x8
But Karen is bairly 4ft 10in
And I am undr 5ft 2in, so a 72in mattress leaves room to spare.

But even being short in stature, we will build our next at 9ft 6" not to add space within the cabin but to add depth in the galley

I totally agree. I am looking at a 9 foot benroy, because I want more room in the galley. The queen size bed is standard.

Great stuff.

John
I was going to build a gen benroy....now...foamie here I come
