New to all of this...

Hi all,
been lurking for only a few days, thought it time to get 'official' after being seriously impressed by the combined knowledge of this crowd.
My name is Carl, 43 yrs, I'm Swedish living in Tokyo, Japan.
Been here since 1991.
I must confess that I'm not generally into camping and such, though not against it in any way either...so why am I on this board?
Well, I have an affliction.
My daily driver for as long as I care to remember have been an assortment of little British sports cars of a generally fickle nature.
Currently I'm driving a '78 MG Midget as my only mode of transport.
This Midget, my 6 year old daughter and I plan to drive from Japan to Sweden when we finally leave Japan for good, a bit of an adventure, if you like.
This is still a couple of years away.
A small teardrop would seem to be a natural companion on this little jaunt.
Thomas' Modernaire Build - 'The Vagabond King' struck me as a worthy target for both beauty and size.
It would have to be as small and light as possible, any other requirements will have to be worked out as we progress, hopefully I can tap you all for some guidance.
Best regards.
Carl

Welcome Rullle :) I am glad you have joined us. Have fun with your trailer build. Be sure to take lots and lots of pictures of your build; it makes Auntie M and Mad Jack very happy.

Check the trailer requirements of all the countries you'll be passing through. Don't want a lack of lights or something to hang you up.

Thank you all for the welcome.
As for what countries we'll be passing through...we haven't actually decided if we'll take the 'Northern Route' or the 'Southern'.
More countries and more issues down south, mostly Russia up north.
Remember, the trip is still at least a couple of years away, though ideally I'd like to get building soonish to iron out any issues before we head off.
Small question: What weight might I achieve and still have my tear insulated? I want to go as light and small as possible with no A/C and only simple cooking.
My Midget has around 65 hp, is VERY small and over 30 years old, don't want to strain the poor girl too much, eh.
Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Welcome, Carl! I'm sure you will have a grand time. Be careful on the first leg of that journey. Last I looked there were no bridges out of Japan!

(sorry, I crack myself up)
God Bless

You are going to want ultra ultra lite, I would think all aluminum. There is a link to a couple who drove from Alaska to the US with a model T roadster and home made tear. the Model T had ten more horsepower though
Sounds like the adventure of a life time, and then some.

Yes, the lighter the better, that's for sure.
I'm not worried about the old MG, she's been around the world more than twice and I know her every nut and bolt.
She'll be fine, and if she isn't, I'll be carrying baling wire and duct tape...

Maybe you should take along some forms of Sikaflex too. :D ;)
Remember if you travel via Nort Amerika you vont have any problem finding help. Why you may end up spending another year or two yust visitin vit da Finntastic teardrop folks thar, especially if you meet up vit a yolly Svede name Roly over California vay. Maybe you will be able to build a nice tear with him, he,s an exceptional gentleman with great Sveedish talent and craftsmanship. He also knows how to build light :)

He has a sister over in Öhland Sveeden dat is. Im sure he,ll greet you here soon enough.
