I cant take another tent trip. LOL A teardrop must happen this winter.
Ive been spending nights for a few weeks here and haven't scratched the surface of the info on this site. Very cool.
I'm hoping to build a tear to haul behind the wifes MINI. Not sure on the size yet but I'm thinking 5 wide by 10 long and as low as possible to keep it out of the wind and while not super super lite as light as possible.
The MINI has 205 hp so I hope it will tow alright. If the MINI doesn't work I have a pickup that will do it no problem.
Ill be asking a lot of weird questions as I some times think a little out of the box. Looking forward to the build.

Welcome, Stop scratchin and start sketchin. I might consider trailer brakes with such a small tow rig.

You and the wife will like teardrop way more than tent trialers,

Have fun, we are all rooting for you

Welcome to the forum Iron-Iceburg. Central Coast California as in Big Sur, San Simeon, on the coast type stuff? You're livin the dream my friend and a teardrop will only get you out in it more.

And yeah, dump the tent unless you're on a hike. 8)

Welcome to the madness
and there's only one cure, get on with the tear.
Now to towing the tear with the Mini....
I don't know how well, but there were two tears with Mini's as the tow vehicles, at the Fourth of July gathering at CloudCroft New Mexico.
Now towing up hill and at altitude is supposed to be a concern, but CloudCroft is at well over 8,000 ft, both seemed to have done fine.

I was just at San Simeon last weekend. Good spot to camp and only about 45 min from home. We just went for the weekend. I think it was the racoons trying to get in the tent that kinda did it for my wife. LOL

You might want to keep in mind that there is a wonderful gathering up at Lake Shasta, the first weekend of May. There are typically 70+ tears and a lot of other canned hams etc...to check out. It's a great place to get ideas, touch base with a lot of members on this and Grants forum, and just camp. We pretty much have the entire campground, and tenters or what we call, tear "soft siders" are welcomed. Doug

PS...I've never had any raccoon issues there!

San Simeon SB Washburn Section. My favorite place to camp and best kept secret. Jumping off point for a beautiful drive up north to Big Sur, or ride my bike into town and play in Cambria. Love it! Scott G.

P.s. I never had any raccoon issues there either??

Yea, a pack of about 6 went thru the camps. I was lucky enough to put all my food in the car overnight but many had the little buggers open their coolers and munch down.
One friend was sleeping in the back of his pickup and one of the raccoons got up on his chest in the middle of the night. LOL He said he was too scared to move and just stayed in his sleeping bag till it got off of him and left. We all had a good laugh on that one, but my wife didn't think it was as funny as I did. LOL

I would like to go a gathering but I'm out of vacation time for while and I want to get started on the tear. Hopefully in the next few weeks.
