Hi, I found this forum from a link on Angib's site. I love these little teardrops and am resolved to build one. I am not sure how to introduce myself other than to say that I have been making stuff since I was a kid. In 2009, I have built to my own design a solar heater, a tabletop CNC Mill and a laser cutter and a couple of Vacform machines. In 2010 I wan to build one of these little teardrops and possibly another boat.

Thanks for providing such a great resource.

A Happy New Year to you all. Big Al
Kind Regards, BigAl.

Welcome! You'll find the forum very helpful and supportive!

We visited your city in June and loved it! Stayed at a bed and breakfast across the street from a big park with a pond in it. Victoria Park maybe?

I will surely post pictures of my build and subsequent adventures.

I know Victoria Park very well and occasionally sail some of my scratch built pond yachts there in the winter, while I'm not sailing full size dinghies.

I also know Wisconsin quite well being married to a lovely gal from Milwaukee (Mmmm, frozen custard!). We were last over for thanksgiving and visit once or twice a year. What a lovely part of the world!

Thanks again for your warm welcome. :)
Kind Regards, BigAl.

Wow--that's really amazing that you come to Wisconsin so often! Milwaukee's about 45 minutes from us in Whitewater and we go there often. There's a late April teardrop gathering at a state park not real far from Milwaukee if you happen to be in Wisconsin at that time. It's called "Cooler Near the Lake."

There are members in here from the UK; hopefully some of them will chime in to welcome you also!

Big Al, I, for one, want to welcome you to the most informative message board, regarding the design, construction and actually using, teardrop and vintage trailers on the internet. I realize that you are rather constricted in your exposure to info, regarding our wonderful little camping marvels, however, I understand that there are a number of TD enthusiasts over there, on the other side of the pond, and perhaps you can hook up with some of them, as your build continues.

Good luck on you efforts to build a camping unit that will be the talk-of-the-town, when you show up at a camping site. Keep us informed with a running description of your build and lots of pics of your progress. Now, as an aside, I want you to know, that when you make that once-in-a-lifetime, trip to the US, you are invited to my humble abode, here in sunny, southern California. Lots of teardropping talk, warm balmy weather, and remember, the coffee is always on..........or tea, if it suits your fancy.

@Pat, Is that Kettle Morraine State Park? I don't think we will be there in late April, but if we are we will definitely take a trip down.

@Roly, Thanks so much for the warm welcome. I take a little milk with no sugar in my tea! ;)

@Graeme, WOW thanks for the offer, I might just take you up on that if I have a problem that is easier to show somebody in person than explain on a forum. Particularly handy would be local contacts for materials. I really appreciate your offer.

Thanks a lot, all of you. Kind Regards, BigAl.

You are more than welcome to come and have a look at mine Al.
It's just under about 3 feet of snow at the moment.
Have a look at my build.

As others have said. Welcome. I hope you have a spot of bad weather, it will give you the opportunity to dig into the vast wealth of information concerning tear drops. I am ever amazed at what I find, and more to the point if I don't find what I need, I have only to ask.

Nope, Cooler Near the Lake is at Kohler-Andrae State park, right on the lake, near Sheboygan (north of Milwaukee). This will be our first gathering, as we're new to this also (purchased a teardrop last May). We did drive through the park on our way somewhere else though. It's beautiful.

We actually live near the southernmost part of the southern Kettle Moraine state park, so if you get over our way at any time, let me know--we'd love to meet you and your lovely Wisconsinite wife! We took the teardrop up to the northern Kettle Moraine last summer and enjoyed the area. Went to a really interesting museum. Can't remember the name off hand though!

Thanks guys for the kind invitation to visit.

The weather is indeed not very good at the moment and I have been perusing trailer designs in some detail for over a month now and am more or less settled on a Superleggra-ish trailer.

With gas costing around $8.50 a gallon over here, I need something that will be lightweight and economical to tow.
Kind Regards, BigAl.
